Hot Rod Kings

Hot Rod Kings
A Photographic Series by Jeffery Conger at the Exit Gallery

The ASMSU Exit Gallery presents "Hot Rod Kings,” a photographic series by photographer, designer and professor, Jeffery Conger. The photographs will be displayed in the Exit Gallery April 16 - 27 with a reception open to the public on Wednesday, April 18th at 5:00 PM.

According to Conger this series is about a new generation of young guns that have been born into the gear head lifestyle. Having grown up in the garages of their modest homes, these ‘hot rodders’ have inherited the automotive gene. “They often let their cars do the talking for them,” says Conger, “either chopped or channeled hi-boy or bobbed, the flathead deuces that they build from the ground up are their rolling sculptures.”  Conger accentuates every detail of the cars in his photographs, turning chrome and paint shots into elements of admiration.  Conger’s photographs are sure to please audiences of all ages, whether you work on cars yourself or just like going for a joy ride.

As a regular contributor to publishing icon Hot Rod Magazine since 2001, Jeffrey Conger’s photographs and stories reach a readership of 7 million per month. His candid images have appeared on the pages of Automobile, Rod & Custom, Classic Trucks, American Rodder, Chevy Rumble and Corvette Enthusiast along with several European magazines. In 2004, Conger was named to I.D. Magazine’s list of top 40 creative individuals in America for his contribution to the profession of publication design. Currently he lives in Bozeman with his family, where he is a Professor of Graphic Design at Montana State University.

The MSU Painting and Drawing Guild is composed of a group of students who meet regularly to explore methods of promoting the arts, most specifically painting and drawing. The Guild hosts Life Drawings sessions on campus every Monday, and has worked to organize art sales as well as other opportunities for young artists such as exhibitions, group mural projects and painting and drawing workshops. And the best part…anyone can be involved…you don’t have to be studying an art related subject. Meetings for the fall 2011 semester have not yet been scheduled.
