Burger Bob’s
By
Ellie Lamberty
&
Hadley Marshall
Burger Bob’s is the
best restaurant in town.
It was started in 1995. The original owner was Bob Fletcher. About 150
people come here a day. It used to be a pet shop and an Italian
restaurant. That’s the history of Burger Bob’s.
Burger Bob’s sells burgers the most. They sell milk
the least. The least expensive things are French fries. The most
expensive thing is seafood. They get old people, young people, rappers
and dorks. The weirdest food they sell is squid. They have 20
employees. The only season that’s not busy is spring. Michael Keaton,
Jule and Katie Couric went to Burger Bob’s. The most popular food is
Cowboy Bob. The least popular food is fried ravioli. That’s the
business.
The man we interviewed dad opinions. He likes the
new sidewalk but thinks it should become a park. The growth of Bozeman
has caused them to get less customers. He doesn’t want to be in the
mall. Their biggest competitors are the Baxter Hotel and the Garage.
This will be here forever. He likes the changes on Main Street. Those
are his opinions.
Our work experience was interesting and fun. We
vacuumed and swept. We stacked boxes in the freezer. The freezer was
-10 degrees. We learned how to make a chocolate milkshake. It was
really good. That’s our work experience at Burger Bob’s.
Grey Fox Gallery
By
Evan Pierson &
Connor
Ault
The history of the Grey Fox Gallery started in 1986 when Le Petite
Gallery opened. Soon the name would change to the Grey Fox Gallery. The
gallery has never been located anywhere but downtown Bozeman. It used
to be a bowling alley, probably one of the first in Bozeman. The
original owner was Eleanor Crank. Other owners have been Dean and Pat
Coleman. The name changed from Le Petite (which means small in French)
to the Grey Fox Gallery because they started selling larger.
If I gave you a description of the gallery it would
be interesting. Two of the most popular artists are Barbra Coppick and
Robert Krogle. The least sold paintings are large paintings. The most
expensive piece is by Mimi Grant. A lot of tourists come during the
summer to look at the art. There are some unusual pieces at the Grey
Fox by Janet Magan. She takes interesting animals and uses strange
colors. There are only two employees Mary and Richard. On average 25-30
shoppers shop there every day. Some different jobs they do consist of
salesman and manager of computer systems. Their busy season is summer.
Sometimes they sell two paintings a day. Through the seasons, business
is an off and on struggle. Every month they feature a different artist
in the art walk. The Grey Fox mainly sells realistic art. The artists
like the gallery because they’re easy to work with.
Richard gave us some opinions about his gallery. The
downtown construction effects the gallery in a good way because it
makes the Main Street environment a better place after it is done.
When we did our interview we asked questions and
worked for Richard. One job was sorting papers. We got paper cuts.
Another job was taking out boxes that had are in them. They were shapes
that were cut out of wood and were painted. That was cool. Finally we
looked at the art there. It was a blast to work at the Grey Fox Gallery!

Chaparral Fine Art is a gallery located at 24 East Main Street in
Bozeman, MT. Chaparral was started by Meg Sullivan and Eleanor Roche in
June of 1994. It has always been in a great location where lots o
people and tourists come in to look at the art. Since it is a new
business no historical events have happened. The sales have gone up and
there have been bigger paintings which have made the business change
over the years. Other businesses that have been here are John Deere
Tractor and a used clothing store.
All kinds of people shop here including Bozeman citizens who love art,
tourists who are looking for souvenirs to remember MT and wealthy
people who are looking for giant art. The most expensive thing they
sell is an eight foot long painting that is 35,000 dollars. The most
unusual thing they sell is life-size bronze dachshunds. Chaparral has
two part-time workers. The jobs there are shipping and selling artwork,
changing light bulbs, working on the computer, designing catalogs and
talking on the phone. The majority of sales at Chaparral are oil
paintings. The items that they sell the least of are water colors. 34
artists and sculptors from all around the country sell their work there.
Chaparral sells several pieces of furniture, impressionistic and
wildlife paintings and sculptures. The construction on Main St. this
summer was bad for business because it prevented customers from coming
into the shop. Eleanor believes a good change downtown would be a good
restaurant. Eleanor and Meg chose their location because it is the
shady side of the street. Bozeman’s growth has been good for business
because it brings in more customers. Their biggest competitor is
Montana Trails. Eleanor thinks in the year 2020 Bozeman will look like
Salt Lake City. The thinks the construction downtown should be more
organized but she believes it did improve Main St. Eleanor said if she
were a customer she would come in any day. Chaparral has many
impressive pieces of art and everybody should go in to buy or look.
The End
Country Bookshelf
By
Nolan Gunderland &

The Country Bookshelf sells great books. It started
by Polly Renne in 1957 across the street from McDonalds. During the
time the Country Bookshelf has been in business the first men went to
the moon and Soviet Union split. The Country Bookshelf has been in its
current location for 21 years. The business that were there before are
the Big Bear Store, Ben Franklin Store, and Records and Budget Tapes.
The Country Bookshelf has certainly gotten bigger over the years. The
Country Bookshelf has over 60,000 books and gift items. The type of
books they sell the most are children’s books. The ones they sell the
least of are computer books. The most expensive thing they sell here is
the complete Harry Potter books hard cover and in a suitcase. It costs
$185. The least expensive things they sell here are gift cards. They
cost $2.25. The most unusual thins they sell here are handmade bowls.
All their books keep people who work here busy. There are 8 people who
work here. The jobs they do include ordering books, unpacking books,
shelving books and dusting book shelves. The workers are most busy at
Christmas. Over 150 people shop here a day including some famous people
such as Meg Ryan and Mel Gibson.
The owner of the Country Bookshelf is Mary Jane. She
has always enjoyed her downtown location. During the construction on
Main Street she had fewer customers but now that the construction is
done she loves the new crosswalks and upgraded lights because of the
count down feature.
Bozeman growth has affected her because there is
more competition from other book stores. Her biggest competitor is
Vargos because it is on the same street. She thinks in the year 2020
that Bozeman will be bigger than it is right now. Mary Jane loves all
kinds of books. Her favorite type of books is children’s books. Her
least favorite type of books is science fiction.
While I was at the Country Bookshelf they put me to
work. The stuff I did there included dusting the bookshelves, putting
books away an on break I rested. I like the Country Bookshelf.

Wild Joe’s
By
Bryan Jaeger &
Gabe
Gordon
Wild Joe’s was started in Feb 2006. It has always been in the same
location. It is owned by Amy. She is the only owner. There have
been no major historical events since they opened. They opened a store
in the library and added a bakery. Harley Davidson and Montana Motor
Supply were in the location of Wild Joe’s. That was Wild Joe’s history.
Wild Joe’s is a great place. They sell mostly coffee and lattes. They
don’t sell that many flowering teas. The most expensive thins are tea
sets. The least expensive things are shots of espresso. People who shop
here love coffee. The most unusual things they sell here are fair trade
items. They have 13 employees. The main jobs are barista and baker. The
busiest time of year is June and July. The average number of people a
day is 300. The famous people who have shopped here are Michael Keaton
and Henry Winkler. They order from high ground organic fair trade
coffee. That was a bit on Wild Joe’s business. The work on Main Street
slowed down business. Wild Joe’s wants to see the Ellen say a theater.
Wild Joe’s chose their location because of visibility. Bozeman’s growth
is helpful to Wild Joe’s business. That was some opinion on Wild Joe’s.
Finally I’d like to tell you about what I did for work at Wild Joe’s. I
scrubbed tables and cleaned windows and put soda in a glass case.
Visions West
By
Ryan Wasia &
Michael
Dvorsak
Art came to Bozeman in 2000 with the new Visions West Gallery. The
other locations of this gallery are Livingston and Denver, Colorado.
The owner is Nikki Todd. She has made big changes in the business over
the years. They have made it bigger. That’s the history of Visions West
Gallery. Visions West Gallery sells the best art in town. The art that
sells the most are Carol Hagan and Rocky Hawkins. The artist who sells
the least is Floyd. The most expensive item in the whole store sells
for $21,000. Isn’t their business cool? The person that I interviewed
had some very good opinions. What’s your opinion about the
construction? It takes away customers. They loved the new crosswalks,
but they hope not to have to redo them in two years. I also asked about
changes they would make and she said she didn’t like the semi trucks.
They chose their location because there are a lot of people who walk by
every day. I agree with her opinions don’t you? First we wrapped
paintings with bubble wrap. It was very fun. We also went down stairs
and played with bubble wrap. In the end we took pictures of paintings
that were being shipped. Well that’s all. We had a lot of fun!

Vargos
By
Marco Cruz &
David
Kramer
The business of Vargos started in 1985. It used to be on Main Street
& 7th Avenue and on Kagy corner. Francis Vargos is the original
owner. There have been no other owners. It sells used half new books,
Jazz, cd’s, pins, magnets, rare books, records and postcards. A
computer store in the early days used to be in that location.
Vargos sells mostly books and the least of pins.
David the man we interviewed would like more parking space. The pins
are the least expensive. Every kind of people shop there. They have at
least four employees in all. Some of the different jobs are running the
counter, cleaning, organizing and counting the money. Their busiest
season is the winter during December – January and during the summer
when the tourists come. Michael Keaton the first ever Batman walked
into Vargos once.
The work on Main St. made Vargos lose business this
summer. David thinks that the new lights and crosswalks on Main St.
made access for wheelchairs. He would like to see more parking space in
Bozeman. The owner shoes that location because you have to be on Main
St to get the best business. Bozeman’s growth affected the business
competed with them. Vargos biggest competitors are Barnes & Noble
and other Big Box stores.
In the future David thinks that there’re going to be
150,000 more people and more traffic in Bozeman, Montana. A change that
he would like to do is to make more room for more merchandise. David
says that he thinks that the name of the store is fine her favorite
thing that he sells is books.
Our working experience was very fun. We sorted books
into alphabetical order. It was fun because we saw a lot of things from
World War II. And we saw a lot of rare merchandise.
The Leaf and Bean
By
Margot Diffendaffer &
Dani
Vanderpan
The history of The Leaf and Bean is so exciting I
can’t believe I waited this long to tell you. This business started in
1977. Other places that The Leaf and Bean has been located are The
Downtown Mall at the top floor of Chalet Sports and on 19th Street by
The Gap. The original owner was Don Schweitzer. He also started the
Pickle Barrel. Other owners are Nicole Gregory, Jo and Butch Nelson,
Glen and Jessie Close, Nocole Boitteau and then Sarah Young. The
business has changed by selling artwork, having live music and they
used to only sell bags of coffee. As you can see this business has
changed a lot over the years!
The Leaf and Bean has changed so much over the years
you can’t even imagine them all! Now the business sells artwork the
least because it’s so expensive. The most expensive things are the art
and ugly dolls. The least expensive thing is a mug of coffee. Mainly
everyone shops here. The most unusual seller here are their ugly dolls.
They have 45 employees throughout both stores. The jobs they have here
are the barista, the bakers, lunch makers, and managers. Their busiest
season is the summer and holidays. The average number of people that
come here a day is 450 people at both stores. Famous people that have
come to the Leaf and Bean are Tom Brokaw, Lyle Lovett and Michael
Keaton (Batman). The people’s favorite flavor is Flathead Cherry. The
more popular coffee is drip coffee. If they had to decide between black
coffee and coffee with milk they would choose coffee with milk. The
Leaf and Bean has a lot of business to tell us about!
Now last but not least are the opinions of The Leaf
and Bean staff. They said that the construction on Main Street made it
trickier to get to the coffee shop. They think that the new crosswalks
and lights are very nice. If Kate (the owner) could change anything in
Bozeman she would make more parking. We asked why she picked this
location, and she said because it was already there when she bought it.
The growth of the store has changed by adding the second store. The
competitors that they have are all the coffee shops. They also think
that The Leaf and Bean will still be there in 2020. She liked the
results of the construction. We asked if they thought the construction
improved Main Street, and they said yes! If the staff were customers
they would come here every day!
Dani and my work experience was awesome and we can’t
wait to tell you about it! Well at first we just talked and did an
interview. After that we got to make steamers and get peanut butter
bars to eat and drink. Then we were going to see how the cash register
worked when someone asked us if we could help them put stuff away
downstairs. So after that we got to run the cash register and serve
people and then it was time to go! So she gave us a water bottle and
sent us away!

Miss Zula’s
By
Elise Wilke &
Nancy
Rich
The history of Miss Zula’s is very interesting. Their business started
in 1999. They have always been in the same location. The owners, Tim
and Angela Kenyon live in Missoula. They have been owners for eight
years. Many historical events have happened since the business opened.
9/11 was one of the major events that happened. Another thing was
Hurricane Katrina. The war in Iraq started and the Tsunami. These
events didn’t affect the business or their sales but the business
changed in other ways. This small store started out just selling
jewelry. Now they sell artwork, accessories, bathing supplies, clothing
and household objects. That’s the history of Miss Zula’s.
Miss Zula’s is a business on Main Street. Miss
Zula’s sells the most of the Atlanta jewelry line. Their most expensive
is a Betsy Johnson dress. The least expensive items are mints and
lipgloss. Most people who shop there are women from the ages of eight
through seventy and up. The most unique item they sell is a handmade
bracelet with a river rock in the middle. The Miss Zula’s in Bozeman
has only five employees that do all of these jobs: help people find
what they are looking for plan events, dust, shine sweep and pick up
orders. Their busiest seasons are summer and close to Christmas. They
have an average of 150 people come into their shop every day. Miss
Zula’s sells more than jewelry. They sell clothes, accessories, bathing
products and art. This small shop has not always been in Bozeman. Their
business started in Missoula.
The opinions that they have on all stuff that ahs
been going on is this. The construction on Main street affected the
business’ sales. They don’t even like the brick crosswalks that were
put in. The lady we interviewed, Kylie only wants to see two small
changes: more small shops and restaurants. They chose the location they
are in because a lot of tourists come to Main Street. Miss Zula’s
employees like the growth happening in Bozeman. Some of their
competitors are the Sugar Shack, Benjies and The Root. Kylie thinks
that Bozeman will be like Spokane in 2020. Miss Zula’s is a nice store
but that’s my opinion.
Our work experience consisted of the tables and
wiping finger prints off tables. Later on we talked about jewelry. We
also figured out are birth stones. We were allowed to try on jewelry.
While we were dusting we talked about different lines of jewelry. Our
favorite was the Atlanta. It was really great to work with and at Miss
Zula’s. It was a wonderful experience.
Universal Athletic Service
By
Amber Marshall &
Rachel
We chose to do our report on Universal Athletics
Service. Now we will tell you about the history of Universal Athetics.
First, the business started in 1972 and is in other locations including
Idaho, Arizona, Wyoming and Colorado. The original owners are Larry
Aasheim and Dick Harte. Some of the major events that happened since
they were opened are 9/11 and the Iraq War. Some changes that the
business has gone through are that they have changed their way of
selling thins. Universal shares a building with Gray Fox gallery and
Bent Lens.
Now we are going to tell you about the business. The
business sells that most of under Aromor and sells the least of
sandals. The mos expensive thing they sell is a treadmill and the least
expencive things they sell are called Track spikes. Mostly all ages
shop at Universal. The most unusual thing they sell is called Shoe goo.
There are about 7 people who work at Universal in Bozeman. Some of the
jobs that you can do at Universal include putting our new stock and
ironing shirs. One of the busiest seasons is winter. During the day
usually 75 people shop here at Universal. Universal is a famous
athletic shop so a few famous people have stopped here including
Michael Keaton and Henry Winkler. Some of the sports they sell for are
football and baseball.
Now we will be talking about some of the opinions of
the employees. The employees said that the work on Main Streeet affects
the business a lot and makes it hard for customers to get around. We
also asked them about the crosswalks and how they like them. We
interviewed a guy named Blake, and he liked them very much. He also
would like to see better parking. Blake likes their location because
it’s where all the action is. The growth of Bozeman is very good for
the business. Some of their competitors include Bob Wards, Foot Locker
and Fleet Feet. What Blake would like to see in 2020 is more stores for
the chain of Universal Athletics. Some of the employees said the
traffic on Main Street is getting better. Blake thinks the construction
is better for Bozeman. “The business needs more space,” says Blake.
We are now going to tell you about our work
experience at Universal. First, we steamed shirts and pumped up balls
when we started. Then it got tricky. We had to unwrap clothing and put
hangers on clothing. That was our report.

Berg law Firm
By
Hailey Buckley &
Natalie
Wilkinson
As you know history is one of the most important
part of a business. So what you are going to read about is very
important. Berg law Firm started in the 1940s and used to be located on
the corner of 19th and College. It used to be a bank and an insurance
company. Now you guessed it! It’s a law firm. Ben Berg started Berg law
Firm but there are many other owners like Mike Lill, Dan Buckley, Dick
Andtolio, Gig Jollesen, Remer McElyea, Linda Wight, John Shrever and
Janine Littlgeber. Here are some interesting things that have happened
in our by this building. They had a parking garage installed. The first
bank robbery was committed at the National bank of Gallatin Valley. The
first police officer was killed while working at the scene. They killed
the robber got killed in Gallatin Canyon. Now we are going to talk
about the technology that has changed in the last few years like
computers, fax machines and copiers. That’s the history about Berg law
Firm.
Step right up!! Spin the wheel! Tic, tic, tic, tic,
tic, tock! Yooouuur the lucky winner! Your get to read about Berg law
Firm’s business! The service they serve and the only serves is legal
service! They never really have an off season. Once Greg Lemond came
in… it was the weirdest case they ever had. He had some news that
someone swallowed a giant lint ball while drinking a pop! In case you
are wondering what used to be in the vault, we will tell you! Yes, what
used to be in the vault was money and safety deposits. Before Berg Law
Firm moved into the building it looked like all empty space, no walls
besides the side wall. They mostly solve cases. They have fifteen to
twenty people come in a day!
Ding, ding, ding tiiime is up! It is not time to
read about their business anymore! It’s time to read about their
opinions! Are you ready for their first opinion? Ok! Well… The
construction on Main Street affected their business by making parking
harder. When the parking garage is finished it will make it a lot
easier to park. They chose to be downtown to be downtown. The growth of
Bozeman will affect the business by getting more people which equals
more clients. In 2020 there will be more people. Of course, they think
they’re better than other law firms. There are some extraordinary
things that are around like ghosts and great people. Don’t you think
Berg law Firm has great opinions? Is time for the break folks… Berg Law
Firm is a great business. If you have a case, they can solve it!
The Bent Lens

History of the Bent Lens. In 1982 the Bent Lens was
started and with the best glasses in town. It was started by Stan and
Mickey Bone. Since they bought the store the technology has gotten
better. An historical event they remember was 9/11. The Bent Lens has a
cool history.
The Bent Lens sells mostly glasses. The most
expensive thing is the Hoffmen Horn frame. The least expensive things
they sell are Crockies. Six people work at the Bent Lens. Some of the
jobs at the Bent Lens are help pick out glasses and clean the lenses.
The owners picked Main Street to locate because
there are more tourists than there are at the mall. They thought the
new lights and crosswalks give Main Street a small town feeling.
Cole and I got to try working at the Bent Lens. It
was interesting. We got to try some of the tools and clean some of the
glasses. It was fun.

The Root
By
Riley Bennett &
Clair
May
Clair and I decided to work at The Root. The Root
started in 1995 by Camille. Camille started in one location and stayed
with it. Camille has had The Root opened for 13 years and just had
their 10 year anniversary. The business changed because summer is
busiest. Fred’s Threads was also in that location. That is the history
of The Root.
This is what Clair and I found about clothes and
prices. The Root sells a lot of women’s clothes. They sell the least of
accessories. Their most expensive thing is $168 and their least
expensive thing is $4.95. Their busiest season is summer. The average
number of people a day is 50-100. That’s what they have sold and others.
Clair and I asked about Main Street. The work on
Main Street didn’t affect their business. The workers like the
crosswalks. They chose their location because it was unique. Bozeman’s
growth helped their business. They don’t have any competitors. That’s
the workers opinions on Main Street.
This is my work experience. The work experience say
don’t work at The Root. But it was fun. Working at The Root is not me.
I would not shop there. It was fun. I learned some things.
Helly Hansen
By
Bridget Creel &
Molly
Hamilton
Helly Hansen sells the most stylish clothing in
town! Helly Hansen known as HH started in 1877 but the store in Bozeman
started in 1987. They have always been in this location and the
original owners are John and Katie Davis. There have been no other
owners. One way HH has changed over the years is from carrying survival
to sport wear. HH has had a very interesting history. Helly Hansen also
has a lot of customers coming to shop at the coolest store ever!
Although they sell lots of everything they sell the most of winter
“lifas” (under layers). HH sells the least of work equipment or
“highliners.” The most expensive item sold is a coat called Helly tick
02 “Elevate” which is for selling for $400 dollars! The cheapest thing
sold is a Nagene cap for $2.50. Everybody shops at Helly Hansen! That
is because there’s everything from stylish to sporty. Eight people work
at HH and their busiest season is October through February. That’s
because of winter since they sell mostly winter clothing. On average
about 20-35 people shop here per day. Sometimes the pro winter sport
team comes to HH because Helly Hansen does not sell any snowboards or
skis even though they’re a sports store but they do sell helmets,
goggles, gloves and backpacks. Who is Helly Hansen? Helly James Hansen
was the founder of HH. He certainly made a good company!
People have a lot of different opinions on the Main
Street construction. The project affected HH positively and negatively.
Not very many people were willing to come downtown to shop. Cristina
likes the new crosswalks and “awesome” changes. A change she wants to
see is the population to go down. Even though they have a good location
(visibility, easy access, etc.), HH says construction is always a
challenge. With Bozeman getting bigger, there is also more people
buying more items. Then there are competitors. The big ones are
Northern Lights, Chalet Sports, and the Round House. Christina predicts
by 2010 through 2020 Bozeman will keep growing maybe by 50%. One thing
Helly Hansen wants to see happen by 2020 is to have a more affordable
workout center for families (maybe a YMCA). Helly Hansen is the best
store in the world!
Working at HH was very fun. First, we got to
practice selling to Christina. Then we checked to see if the items sold
yesterday were still in stock. Not many were, so we checked in the back
room for more items to put on the shelf. Lastly, we went in the
basement for items and finally watered plants. I want to work at Helly
Hansen when I’m older!
