About ME!

I enjoy teaching! I enjoy providing the scaffold and challenges which help learners create their own understandings. I enjoy having them share their talents and expertise with all of us. I especially enjoy teaching students how to effectively integrate technology into their teaching strategies and activities because all people need to be comfortable and skilled in using technology in this world of instant information. There is always something new to learn and to keep up with in the field of technology and I love the constant challenge! I thrive on "planned chaos!" Another joy is working with teachers in the "real world!" Practicing teachers are the key to helping us know what it is that pre-service teachers really need to know in order to be their most effective when they are teaching in the "real world."

Courses that I teach:

To prepare teachers to use and integrate a variety of technologies confidently, thoughtfully, and effectively to enhance student learning in the content areas. Topics include: use of computer assisted instruction, development of web-based teaching tools, legal issues, teacher electronic portfolio creation, collaborative learning, and content area integration strategies.

EDCI 460 Technology Integration: Strategies for Enhanced Learning

Strategies for integrating technology into the classroom environment to enhance learning. Topics include: application of educational technology standards into the content areas, project-based learning, design of WWW teaching tools, current issues in educational technology, and actual classroom practice.

EDCI 555 Technology, Instructional Design, and Learner Success

Practicing teachers will build knowledge in instructional technology through research and practice to design, implement and evaluate student-focused technology integration projects that enhance student learning. Teachers will integrate concepts from learning theories, frameworks for "Teaching with Understanding" and project-based learning.

CyberChics

I also enjoy teaching a technology class for older citizens. Working with older adults is rewarding and challenging! My dissertation was based on teaching women over 70 years of age to use computer technology. I developed a model for setting up the necessary learning atmosphere and class design, teaching strategies, and effective instructor characteristics for use with those teaching this large segment of the population.

Other things that make me happy:

Joan and her niece Kyla after a great ride in the mountains.

My husband and I enjoy driving our team.

My dog Foxy and I getting ready to feed the horses with the team.
