Business Reports
Universal Athletics

By Katie & Ruby

We got to work at Universal Athletics.  We ironed sweatshirts, pants, shorts, and jackets.  It was fun to iron, but you had to be careful or you would burn yourself.  We ironed with a thing called a steamer.  It boiled water, and the steam got the wrinkles out.  Ruby burnt herself, so be careful.  After we steamed, we hung the clothes.  It was so much fun!!!!

Universal Athletics has been in business for 30 years. Dick Harte and Larry Aashiem started the business.  They have moved once from across the street.  Their name has never changed.  There have been no previous owners.  Universal Athletics changed when high school sports were introduced.  There has been one break-in.

Universal Athletics sells shoes and team equipment.  They sell shoes the most.  The thing they sell least are head bands and wrist bands.  Goo is the most unusual thing they sell.  They have stores in Salt Lake City, Butte, Great Falls, Billings, Missoula, and Wyoming.  Parents mostly shop there.  The treadmill is the most expensive thing they sell.  They have 25 employees.  Seasons do not affect Universal Athletics.  We had a great time.

Downtown is the best place to locate a business because it is the busiest.  A challenge they face is competition.  An issue they deal with is parking.  Bozeman growth helps them.  Dick and Larry chose to locate the business in Bozeman because they went to college in Bozeman.  It was so cool!!!!!!

Bozeman To Other Cities
Bozeman and Kayseri
by Ruby

The best thing about Bozeman is the parks, downtown, mountains and good skiing. Some of the reasons I like parks is that you have a lot of space. Another reason is that they have good jungle gyms. The reason I like Downtown is because they have good shopping and it is very nice and local. Here there is really good skiing, but some years it is bad skiing. Last year it was quite bad but that is OK. The year before was a really good year because we got 100 inches. Hopefully this year will be good!!
The best thing about Kayseri is the food, the underground city of Kayseri, Rock City and the buildings. The food there is so good! The Underground City is so amazing. The reason they built it was because the slaves didn’t want to be captivated so they built it. That is cool! Rock City is about the same, except that it isn’t underground, it is high up. Buildings in Kayseri are so cool, the way they are shaped is cool!
I prefer Bozeman more than Kayseri because I have lived here all my life. I also prefer Bozeman because of my friends. Like my whole entire family lives here, except about four people. I love Bozeman. Bozeman is the best!

Opera House
Main Street

Nov. 15, 2005
Dear Ruby Sage Zitzer,
I, the Opera House, was built in 1889.  I was torn down in the 1960’s.  Nine hundred people could fit in the auditorium.  It took them about a year to build me.  The first night the Bozeman Hotel opened, they built a big bridge from the hotel to the Opera House so the ladies wouldn’t get their dresses muddy or wet.  Many things filled my space, like the fire department, a tax assessor, a jail, and much more.  The first library was built here.  It was amazing!!
I think they should move me to the Story Mansion and fix me.  The reason I don’t think they should rebuild me is because it would cover up the mural.  The mural was made in 1980.  So it has been there for a while.  They should put a bunch of artifacts in the park.  If they were to put me in the Story Mansion, they should have a ball every month.
                    Sincerely,
                    The Opera House

Historical Fiction

Pumping a Drop
By Ruby Sage Zitzer

I’m soaring, soaring through the air.  Until now I’ve just been floating in a pond with a bunch of duck’s feet.  Then, a huge suck, pulling me up, and up, and up into a dark tunnel.
All of a sudden I’m part of a waterfall. I see something clear, very clear.  I didn’t really think about it, but then I realized that I’m getting closer and closer!  Then I hit something.  Bam!  It really did kill!!
Whoa, I’m in a pond again, a little one with clear sides.  All of a sudden I feel cool air, and I feel something.  So beautiful!  Next I figure out that I’m at Byron Story’s wedding.  I see women dressed in white.  Music is playing.  Byron Story is getting married to a girl named Kate.  It is 1898.
Mr. Story has water pumped to his house, and I got pulled into the pipe.  Now I’m outside, in a pitcher, on the lawn of the mansion.  Wow, this house takes up a whole block!  It is so beautiful.
Oh, I’m being picked up.  Here I go again, down a waterfall, into a tiny pond in a glass of water.  Uh-oh, I’m in the air, I’m being tipped.  I’m pouring over another waterfall.  There’s someone’s face really close.  A big hole is opening.  It’s dark in there.  GOODBYE!!!!!!

What I Think About Things
Ruby

Because I live in Bozeman, I get a lot of exercise on trails. I love to ski, play soccer in the parks, paddle the rivers, climb the mountains, ride bikes, go swimming, and jump on my trampoline. Bozeman is good for all of those things.
Most of my mom’s family lives near Bozeman, so I spend lots of time with my cousins, aunts and uncles and my oompah and oomah (which means grandpa and grandma in German).
Bozeman has all four seasons and there are different things to do in each one. I swim and paddle and hike in the summer. I play soccer in the fall. I ski in the winter. In the spring I play soccer again.
Because I live in Bozeman I can walk to school, or ride my bike all year long. I have lots of good friends and I think people in Bozeman are really friendly, which makes it easy to meet people.
