Special Interest Pieces

Dear Drake,
Yo! I was just reading a book when something interesting struck me. I live very close to Mystic Lake and its in this book! One thing different  about it from other lakes is that no matter what time of year it stays freezing cold!  I go camping there in the summer. Psssst! Mystic Lake si actually a man made Resivoir. Mystic Lake has a dam that lets just enough water out. Its up in Hylite canyon. It has really good fishing. You can catch trout, grayling, chubs and lots more. You could say it’s a pretty cool spot.
It’s a big wide open area with a gorge that overlooks  the lake. As I said earlier, you can camp there. The way you get water is from a near by pump. Mystic Lake is a good hiking spot also.
Sincerely,
Michael

Business Reports
The Country Bookshelf

By Michael Nolt & Nate Lamberty

The Country Bookshelf business was started thirty years ago by Mary Jane Disanti.  Polly Renne owned White Chapel Books before it became Country Bookshelf.  White Chapel Books was located by LaParilla and Zydeco Café.  During the Vietnam War, Country Bookshelf was in service.  Country Bookshelf is now located on Main Street.

Right now the Country Bookshelf is an open store to everybody.  Recently the Country Bookshelf’s biggest seller is books.  Their worst seller is sports books and journals.  It’s amazing that they sell a two-hundred-dollar atlas.  Nine working employees make the Country Bookshelf a great store.

Mary Jane chose the location on Main Street because it’s very accessible.  She also chose the name Country Bookshelf.  Bozeman’s growth has affected their business in a good way.  Traffic and parking downtown makes customers walk a little sometimes.  Obviously, the Country Bookshelf is a great book store.

Bozeman Comparison
by Michael

The best things about Bozeman are I live out of town. Second, I go to a good school, Longfellow Elementary. I also have great friends like Drake Phillips. In my opinion Bozeman has great shopping stores. As you can see Bozeman is a great town.
The best things about Kalispell are I also live out of town. There are some pretty good schools in Kalispell. One thing you can be sure about is there are a lot of things to do there. Kalispell has good terrain for planting things. Who knows what they will do to Kalispell next.
You know, no offense, but I prefer Kalispell way over Bozeman. Mainly because I’ve lived there longer. Since I’ve lived there longer I’m more familiar with things. Big Mountain ski resort is the coolest place in Kalispell and the coolest place in the world.

Opera House
Main Street
Bozeman, MT 59715
Nov. 15, 2005
Dear Michael,
I’m the old Opera House.  I could fit nearly nine hundred people inside me.  I got torn down in the nineteen sixties.  It was so depressing when they tore me down.  My service to the people ended.  It was fun while I stood up.
Later in the twentieth century I became a park.  The question is: what will they do with me now?  In my opinion, I think they should make me a bank.  I’d hold money and help people, and hopefully last longer.  Actually, I think the town could use an opera house.
                    Sincerely,
                    The Opera House

What I think About Things

By: Michael
Our first question is, why should we study Bozeman History? I think people are a lot more social when they have more knowledge about things. People probably get better grades knowing more about history. They also would have a lot more to talk about. That is why I think Bozeman history is important.
Bozeman history is also important. Because Lewis and Clark (and Seaman) came through what is now “Bozeman”. There where a lot of famous people who lived in Bozeman. In my opinion Bozeman history is pretty interesting. That’s some more reasons.
In my last few years of elementary school I have also done more reports on Bozeman history. Last year I played Meriwether Lewis’s dog Seaman. Lewis and Clark were some of the most interesting people that I’ve ever heard of.
One thing I’ve never found is if there has ever been any blacks in Bozeman. Mainly in the 1940’s or 1950’s. I feel so guilty being a white person. I’ve also wondered if there has been any major wars in Bozeman. It still seems kind of weird having a mansion in the part of a not very important town like Bozeman.
