Business Reports
The Bent Lens

By Lizzie Gill & Raya Roberty

Working at the Bent Lens was interesting.  We got to sort glasses by brands.  They have Nike brand.  Another brand is Rayban.  All together there are over 30 brands for men, women, and children.

The Bent Lens has a lot of history.  Micky started the Bent Lens in 1982, 23 years ago.  Susan Brownell owns the Bent Lens right now.  Last year they remodeled their store to a more high-end store. Laura, who we interviewed, says that they have never changed their business’ name or location. The Bent Lens has been open during Sweet Pea and Hatch festival.  One thing that has changed is the materials they use.  As you can see, the Bent Lens has gone through many changes.

The Bent Lens sells many things.  They have glasses, sun glasses, lenses, frames, and glasses straps.  They sell mostly prescription or non-prescription glasses.  Some of the things they sell the least of is prescription ski goggles and handmade Asian buffalo horn glasses rims.  The most interesting part of the Bent Lens is the people who shop here.  They are old and wealthy people, famous people, or rock stars.  Three employees work there.  The most expensive thing they sell is handmade Asian buffalo horn glasses rims.  They cost $3,200.  As you can see, there is lots of variety at the Bent Lens.

The Bent Lens faces two challenges.  One is population growth.  The other is more places opening like WalMart and Costco.  Parking, traffic, and the mall don’t affect The Bent Lens.  One thing that helps the Bent Lens is tourists.  The only shop they compete with is the fly shop with their sun glasses.  The Bent Lens will always be an important business in our community.

Bozeman To Other Cities
Bozeman to Billings
by Raya

Bozeman is the best town to live in. I think that one of the best things about Bozeman is that it is beautiful. Here in Bozeman there is a very pretty ridge behind my house that is so much fun to hike on. Some stores in Bozeman have the best shopping like The Gap and Old Navy. People in Bozeman are just plain nice, I mean no one is ever that rude to anyone! All in all Bozeman is just a plain beautiful place to live!
Another place that is a great town is Billings. Billings is a wonderful city, but is a big place. I think that one of the reasons that I love Billings so much is because my grandma lives there. Whenever I go to Billings I love to stay at those fancy hotels, those are so much fun! You should visit Billings!
Out of Billings and Bozeman I think that I love Bozeman more. One of the reasons is because Bozeman is smaller. There is no comparison, Sweet Pea is the best thing in the world ever! Less people is another reason. The really big reason is because I have lived in Bozeman all my life.

Opera House
Main Street
Bozeman, MT 59715
Nov. 15, 2005
Dear Raya Roberly,
Hi.  I am the old Opera House.  You might have heard of me as just a place to watch plays, but I am so much more.  When I was just built, the may of this fine city was John Bogart.  John loved to watch plays, he even wrote some.  When the city voted to build me.  Everyone wanted to have an Opera House, but they got more than just an opera house.  They got a jail and a library to go with it.  When ever there was a play or something going on with music, the people in jail would listen to the plays.
Now I am torn down.  They put in a park, in my space.  I think that they should pu an animal center in my space.  I think that it would be best to put something that will help animals in my space.
                    Sincerely,
                    The Opera House

Historical Fiction

Sweet Pea Bench
By Raya

I am the bench at Sweet Pea.  Every year I sit here and watch the Festival.  I was here when they first made Sweet Pea on August 11, 1906, planned for August because it is most unlikely to rain.  I remember how they scrubbed down the windows so they were so clean a bird ran in to one, thinking that it was open.  My favorite part of it all was to see the floats rolling up and down with colors like green, pink, and white.  It made everyone so happy.  One thing that I remember best is when Kathryn Hanly was crowned first Sweet Pea Queen in 1906.  One of the most amazing auto floats was one decorated entirely out of chrysanthemums.  I have seen every Sweet Pea and will see many in the future.

What I think About Things
Raya Roberty
In the year 2099 I think Bozeman will have gone a long way. The year 2099 I think a lot will have changed. The way big business has been growing Bozeman will be bigger, much bigger. Taller buildings like NYC will be around every corner. If Bozeman’s population keeps growing we will be so big we will be as big as NYC in 2099. Bozeman will look like Star Wars. There will be weird animals will have evolved like two headed animals. The houses will be on these weird stands. They will be covered by bubbles. Everyone will walk around on floating stepping steps, but if you fall or miss one and fall you will just fall and fall forever and ever. In 2099 all the stores will be floating in air, so if you went to go to the store you fly in a jet. There will not be that many stores so people will just order stuff off the net and it will appear just like magic. In the year 2099 all most everything will change.
