HOW TO ADD ARTIFACTS TO MY ELECTRONIC PORTFOLIO IN MY Z DRIVE

Open your z drive > web folder.  Inside the INTASC folder are all of your web pages on which to document your accomplishments.

If you need directions for using Seamonkey Composer--

WARNING:
Buttons that go from page to page (ie: Portfolio, Resume, Teaching Philosophy, etc.) only work when you are browsing the page, not when you are composing. You can tell which mode you are in by looking at the buttons at the top of the screen. If you see "save" and "browse" buttons, you are in the composing mode.  To actually use/see the edited page the way it will appear on the web, you will need to Save and then click on the Browse icon. These commands are available in the toolbar at the top of the screen.

TWO WAYS TO PREPARE YOUR DOCUMENTS BEFORE ADDING TO THE PORTFOLIO

1.  If the document you want to add as an artifact is a simple word document, you can COPY it from Word and PASTE into the INTASC standard you want:  st1.html, st2.html, etc.  SAVE.

OR

2.  If you have a lesson plan or other word-processed document that is longer or more involved with formatting (tables, images), you should change the document to a web page first, then create a link to it from the INTASC standard-- st1.html, st2.html, etc.

How?

  • Open the Word document you want as an artifact.
  • FILE > SAVE AS WEBPAGE
  • Name it a short name with no spaces or caps       ex.   shortname.html
  • Save it onto the desktop in a separate folder with your name.
    • Sometimes this process takes a minute and you might end up with a webpage.html and a folder webpage.files  Sometimes you just get one .html document and no extra folder.  Sometimes you get the html item and a folder with additional pieces that must go with the .html item.  You will need both of these if it creates them.
  • Drag the new web page.html and any associated folders into the INTASC folder in your z drive web folder.

TO OPEN A PAGE IN SEAMONKEY

You will need to drag the web page you want to work on into Seamonkey on the dock, EDIT PAGE will bring up the tools.  You can also open the page by holding your right mouse button down on the page, then releasing on OPEN WITH, select Seamonkey.  Remember FILE,  EDIT PAGE in order to get your editing tools.

ADDING THE ARTIFACT TO AN INTASC STANDARD WEB PAGE

a.  Open the standard web page (st1.html, st2.html, etc.) from which you want to link to this new web page created in 2 above in Seamonkey.  File> Edit Page to get the tools.

b.  In the white box below the standard description, add 1) Reflective statement.  2) Rationale.  3) Artifact or link to artifact.

1.  A reflective statement on each INTASC principle. "What does this standard mean to you?  How does this teaching standard [principle] affect your professionalism as a teacher?  Why is this standard [principle] important?  How does mastering/exhibiting this standard [principle] make you a skilled teacher?  What experiences have you had that have influenced your interpretation of this standard [principle]?" (p. 52

2. Rationale for individual artifacts.  Rational is a statement explaining the connections between the artifacts and the INTASC standards.  What is the artifact? Why is the artifact filed under this standard? What does the artifact say about my growing competence? What are my strengths and weaknesses?

3.
Performance based on artifacts. "...an artifact is tangible evidence of knowledge that is gained, skills that are mastered, values that are clarified, or dispositions and attitudes that are characteristics of you." (p. 54)

Artifacts can be lesson plans you have created, tests, videos of your teaching, text, pictures, audio, podcasts, blogs, etc.
