 Here are sites with good activities using spreadsheets; you can adjust them to fit your needs for using spreadsheets in your classroom.  Remember, spreadsheets are used to help students analyze data, to learn what kind of chart or graph would best represent the data, and to examine "What if" type questions.  Use your spreadsheet activity to provide students with opportunities for higher level thinking.


First:   Examine of few spreadsheet lessons in order to understand what they are and how they are used. Also, if you find one to modify to fit into your unit plan, save it. It can be an extra credit activity for your unit plan.

Second:  For class today......

1.  Go to the bottom of the page linked below, click on "M & M Spreadsheet" in order to download the spreadsheet lesson.  Save the lesson in your EDCI320 folder (z account or student folder).

2.  Notice, at this site, the other types of lessons using Excel for a variety of activities. 
Further down the page is a listing of other sites with spreadsheet information and activities:  Almost Everything You Need for Using Spreadsheets in the Classroom, Classrooms that Excel Resources,  Graphing Ideas for the Classroom

3.  Quit your web browser and quite all other applications that are open on your computer.

4.  Open the M & M spreadsheet--an Excel document.
Your lab instructor will guide you through the pages and activities of the lesson on the large screen as you do them on your computer.  You should start with SHEET 9 in order to create your spreadsheet for this lesson. 

5.  If you were doing this by yourself, you would use sheet 9 on which to complete each activity described on the other pages, ex. You would flip back and forth using the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet.

Look at each of the types of graphs: bar graph, line graph, scatter plots, and pie charts.
Write the use for each type.  Make up one example for using each type with your students (any content area).
