A Spanish Fiesta!

This week brings Feria to Sevilla! Feria is one of the biggest parties of the year for Spain. For that reason all schools get the week off -- incredible. But with the good comes the bad, Feria started last night and since the start at midnight it has rained ever since. Today was been nothing but constant rain which is a bummer. I believe most people are still trying to make it out of the house and to the party.

Conditions are not supposed to get better before the end of the week either. On the bright side I am heading to Ireland and Scotland this Thursday! I am taking some time out of Sevilla and traveling. I have stayed in Sevilla for the past 6 weeks and feel it is time to get out and travel again. I am super excited and will keep you updated. I hear that Bridger is still holding 112 inch base, so it seems like the year is holding on just fine. I picked one hell of a year to leave it seems!

Oh well, if I get back in time there will still be plenty of snow to be had!

Spanish Holy Week

Semana Santa…where to start. Well, in all honesty Semana Santa to Americans looks like a KKK meeting, when in reality this is a tradition that has been going on long before the KKK began. Nazarenes are the Spanish word for these people who dress very similar to the KKK. Although they are dressing for a very specific reason, during holy week they wonder around in "costume" to hide their identity. Over all the week was powerful, some of the processions are silent processions where hundreds of thousands of bystanders are quiet.

All in all i was blown away with the week and am glad that i had the opportunity to see it. I would recommend it for anyone who is interested in religion or anyone looking to see something unique!

Spring Break #2!

This week has been spent gearing up for spring break number two!! I am very, very ready for this one, due to the fact that i am leaving Sevilla this time. Last break i stayed for the whole time. Being ready for a change, i will be heading to Scotland and Ireland! Both of these are places i have never been, so i look forward to touring the countryside and pulling in the sights! School has been good here, everything seems to be coming to a early end. Finals schedules just came out so there is light at the end of the tunnel! In fact i was thinking i only have about two and a half months left in Europe! Time is flying, see ya soon Bozeman!

Spring break in Spain!

This week in Sevilla HOT weather has come! It was about 84 degrees and it surprised me to say the least. Midterms have also come around and with that it’s time to study. Midterms are very spread out here, they are about three weeks long. It is very easy to study for one test a week so I have no complaints. I know that MSU is about a week away from spring break because one of my friends, Justin Vetters, is coming over to Switzerland, sadly I will not be able to make it over to see him. We have spring break in about two weeks, and during that time it is Semana Santa: the biggest holy week in the world!! I am ready to see what the best in the world has to offer. Apparently this celebration is massive and people travel from all over the world to see it. I will try to post a picture or two. Until the next time...

Spring Time in Spain

The time is flying here. I feel like the past few weeks have been moving at such a pace that I have to run just to remember everything that has happened. On a positive note we finally received rain in Sevilla!!! I came to find out that Sevilla only receives about 20 days a year of rain… “Wow” is all I have to say about that. I had become so accustomed to Rocky Mountain weather being erratic and here it seems like everyday is blue bird! Seeing rain made me so happy, my host mom thought I was crazy because I went and ran around in the rain! I hope the snow is flying in the boze and that all is well!!!!

booyah

Traveling

This week has brought pandemonium in my life!! Through my program we are traveling so much recently. Not that i am complaining but at the same time i feel like i am always moving and going somewhere. Last weekend i was in Italy, specifically in Rome and Florence! They both were amazing and i would love to go back anytime. Of course we made it to all the famous sites such as the statue of David, the Colosseum, the Vatican, and many others. Overall the trip was epic, the people were awesome and friendly, and the food was out of this world! I hope to go back there someday and encourage all to make the trip, it is damn well worth it.

Besides that i still find myself in 70 degree weather and missing ski season! but i realize that i have it pretty good over here. The next few months are going to fly by and i know this! booyah... i will keep writing... you keep reading!

MSU in Spain!

SO booyah for traveling and getting out of the states!! I have loved my time here so far in Europe. I started in Paris, France where I met up with a fellow MSU student Samantha Becker and we traveled around and visited all the sites! It was a blast, after this I proceeded to travel down to Sevilla, Spain where I will be studying this semester.

We started classes today, and I will come out to say that the weather is a little different than back home. It is currently 74 degrees here and wow it’s January!!! Ahhhhhhh, hope all is well in the Boze, I miss it.

Final Push

Last week brought Thanksgiving and I must say that I am ready for the end of the semester. The snow is falling in massive quantities right now which makes focusing on school hard. Finals week is coming up in a week which means that school is about over! As well, that means that it’s time to study like no other and pass those final exams. Every year about this time people get stressed and I wonder how can one be stressed when snow is falling and school is about over. We have a month off for Christmas break and that is plenty of time to ski and do whatever; there is no time to be down about how many finals one has over the next two weeks. It’s go time so get out there and enjoy, I hear Cooke City, Montana, already has a 50-inch base, so get it done!!

On Break

So winter break is in full swing here in Bozeman. I must say that I enjoy this town when the masses head back home, the streets are quiet, the ski hills are local again, as well as the town just slowing down. It is really nice to have a break from classes as well as the pandemonium that is Bozeman during the regular school year. The ski season is amazing: at this point we still need snow, of course, but the base is setting up really nice, all we need now is the four foot dump that I know is coming. It seems that Bozeman usually knows when the masses leave because that is when we get the big dump. So, I am waiting with fingers crossed at this point!

Finals Week!

So this time of year is usually reserved for pulling out hair, screaming, and throwing a fit that you cannot see straight. But, somehow this semester I managed to stay on top of all my work and am currently done. It feels amazing! But with this feeling of joy also came one of bitter because I am going to study abroad next semester in Spain, and because of that I just took my last classes and tests at MSU. For some this would seem to give reason to throw a party or say “who cares?” but over my four years here, MSU has really grown on me. I am going to miss this place, I am going to miss picking classes to take, and most of all I am going to miss being on campus. The atmosphere on campus is one of a kind, there is always someone to say hi to or sit down and have a chat with. My point is that MSU has become a home to me, and well, sadly its time to move on. I plan on continuously writing while I am in Spain but from MSU I am out!

Thanksgiving Break

This week brings Thanksgiving break and I must say it is well needed!

Things have gotten a bit hectic and with my climbing trip to Colorado last weekend I find myself a little behind in classes. I am thankful that we only have two days of school this week, that seems mighty doable compared to the normal five days. Bozeman is in a winter weather advisory for the next 36 hours so that means snowy weather is on the way…about time. I am glad to be going home for the break as well, leaving Bozeman even if it is for short time always seems to bring more appreciation when I return. Over the last four years Bozeman really has become a home away from home, and returning here always puts me in a great mood. We can only hope with my return in a week that the grounds are covered and the cold smoke is on its way!

The big game

This week as MSU has been crazy it is the big rivalry with University of Montana. There was a huge prep rally downtown on Thursday. As well, the basketball team had fundraiser for their team as well. It seems to be turning into a sports season. Tomorrow is the big day and people have been talking about it all week. The weather does not look like its going to be sunny, but I figure we have an advantage if it’s snowing!!! So go cats!!!

Snow

SO we finally got some more snow here! It really is about time, we are in desperate need of snow! But skiing is at least possible now; the high country is holding snow. And with the warm weather during the day and the cold, cold weather during the night, ice climbing season is starting to look really good!! Climbing outside is still a possibility as well; we are getting weather as warm as the 60s! I can’t wait for more snow but until we get some it’s still climbing season in my book!

10th Week of Class

So this week we are starting the 10th week of class!!! This means that we are 2/3 of the way done and that excites me. Now comes the process of picking classes for next semester and the key process for me is deciding how often I want to ski during the week. Making logical decisions and scheduling all your classes on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays so you can ski Tuesdays and Thursdays every week is the great about college! Classes are all going well, this time of year you just have to stay motivated, we just got through a test cycle and now we only have five weeks left. People seem to drag at this time of year but staying motivated by being active keeps me awake in classes. Till we meet again!!!

Winter

Well this is the second post and now more than ever I feel winter is coming. I got my first day of skiing in this year! I had to go up the backside of Sacagawea which is conveniently about 45 minutes from Bozeman! As well this past weekend MatchStick production’s movie Seven Sunny Days came and premiered at the Emerson, which is a local art theatre. It was amazing and tons of characters turned out to make this one of the best premiers in the west. Making an a appearance at the screening was Luke Smith in a yeti costume, as well as many people dressed for the 80’s who were ready to party like rock stars. The Emerson could barely hold in the energy that was coming from the crowed!!! I will leave on the simple words of: Viva Ski season!

Ski Season Coming

So school is rolling and before I know it ski season will be upon us. Class this semester seem to be flying by, and with leafs starting to change on campus it can only mean one thing, cold weather!!!! And with cold weather comes the best part of Bozeman in my mind, the ski community. Although not a tight knit group there seems to be a movement every year about this time when ski racks make a return to the tops of cars and people are frequently asking what the weather is looking like. I feel the community coming together for the greater cause, and that of course is skiing!!! It is only a matter of time now. Here in Bozeman there is the potential to skip seasons, and although we have had a bit of fall, winter could be upon us at anytime. Now that we are halfway through this semester midterms are here and studying is to be done. But every night when I leave the library I look up and wonder is tonight the night that copious amounts of snow come?
