"Big Sky Country" awaits you this summer as we invite you to join us on a unique bus tour through the heart of western Montana's stunning natural landscape and four institutions of higher education. When you consider that less than a million people are scattered around the nation’s fourth largest state, you’ll understand that there’s plenty of sky to go around and plenty of road to travel so be prepared to be impressed by beauty and friendliness.
This part of the state is full of wonder and packed with everything that comes to mind when folks dream of Montana: it is blessed with large agricultural valleys, snow-capped mountains, big ranches, spectacular views, trout-filled rivers, abundant history, and a slow-paced, genuine Montana way of life. But as you participate in this tour, we are certain you'll experience another reason why Montana will impress you-our world-class colleges and universities. These four institutions are magnets for top-notch teachers and researchers plus students from around the country and across the globe
You will spend ample time on each campus meeting faculty, staff, and students, and learning about each school's unique programs and attributes. Each day is full of tours, delectable meals and hospitality you won't soon forget.
For $100, we will provide housing, meals, and most transportation. You are responsible for the cost of your own transportation to and from Montana. Participants from the 2007 tour raved about the opportunity to see a variety of schools, to experience the splendor of Montana, and to gain positive professional development.
Tour participation is available on a FIRST COME, FIRST-SERVED basis. Due to limited seating on the bus, we would advise you to register as soon as possible. OPEN REGISTRATION for the 2008 tour is available now. Click here for the REGISTRATION FORM. Registrations will only be accepted by mail and only with a deposit.
Who should attend the tour?
This tour is targeted to counselors who want to learn more about the educational opportunities in Montana. We welcome spouses and partners on the tour but require a $100 fee for each participating person.
The 2008 Bus Tour will visit the following colleges and universities:
Founded in 1893, it is a liberal arts institution which is part of the Montana University System. Nearly 14,000 students attend UM and receive undergraduate and graduate education in the University’s four colleges—arts and sciences, forestry and conservation, technology and health professions. It also includes seven schools—journalism, law, business, forestry, education, pharmacy and the fine arts.
The University of Montana is located in Missoula, the hub of five valleys and three major rivers. With about 60,000 residents, the city has an increasingly diverse population and is Glacier Country's center of commerce and culture. Many outdoor opportunities are available in the millions of acres of surrounding recreational and wilderness areas.
Founded in 1909, it is a private, catholic liberal arts college. It is a pre-professional school that prepares students for admission to graduate, law and medical schools but it also offers a variety of liberal arts degrees and programs. Approximately 1,400 students are enrolled.
Carroll College is located in Montana's capital city, Helena. In the city proper, there are around 35,000 people. It is a small town with a vibrant arts and culture scene but access to incredible and varied outdoor, recreational opportunities.

Founded in 1889 as the Montana School of Mines, Montana Tech is a science and engineering college. While still focusing on its original programs in minerals and energy engineering, Montana Tech has expanded its offerings to include new science; engineering, computer science, technical communication, and business programs. Around 2,100 students are enrolled.
Tech is located in historic Butte, Montana. It is a small city (approximately 34,500 people) located directly on the Continental Divide, surrounded by mountains and almost 4 million acres of state and federal public land. It lies on some of the world's richest mineral reserves and is a city rich in history, culture, sports, and the mining industry.

Founded in 1893, Montana State University is the state's land-grant research university and also part of the Montana University system. Enrollment totals just over 12,000 students who major in more than 120 areas of study. MSU offers undergraduate and graduate education in the liberal arts and sciences, agriculture, architecture, education, engineering, health and human development, and nursing.
MSU is located in Bozeman, a city that encompasses over 50,000 people with its surrounding areas. It is one of Montana's major tourism and agricultural centers-in the heart of Yellowstone country and is surrounded by four mountain ranges, thousands of acres of the Gallatin National Forest and hundreds of miles of blue ribbon trout streams.
