Achievement Awards

All non-resident freshmen who submit an application for admission complete with self-reported High School GPA, rank (if applicable) and test scores (sent from the testing company), are automatically considered.

Montana State University will offer millions of dollars in scholarships and awards to non-resident freshman who apply for admission.

Achievement Awards are automatic, merit-based scholarships based upon GPA and test scores. Award amounts will vary up to $60,000 (up to $15,000 per year renewable). These awards will be applied toward tuition only. All non-resident freshmen who submit an application for admission complete with self-reported high school GPA and test scores (sent directly from the testing company) are automatically considered.

These awards will be applied toward tuition only.

To be eligible, you must complete the following as soon as possible:

  1. Apply for admission to Montana State University.
    Be sure to include your self-reported GPA and class rank (if applicable).
  2. Have your official ACT and/or SAT test scores sent to Montana State University directly from the testing company.

Apply early! These scholarships and awards may only be available for a limited time. It is essential to apply for admission and have your ACT and/or SAT test scores sent to Montana State University as soon as possible.  Due to limited funds, the priority deadline for this program is 2/1/2020.

If you qualify, these scholarships will be automatically awarded when we have received your application (be sure to complete the self-reported gpa/rank section) and your ACT and/or SAT test scores. Scholarship recipients will be notified by mail (notifications will begin in the late fall).

If you are awarded a renewable Achievement, WUE or Distinction Award, you must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater, enroll for a minimum of 15 credits a semester, and maintain non-resident status and continuous enrollment to retain the award throughout your four years at MSU.  MSU freshman scholarships and awards are available to those seeking undergraduate bachelor degree programs only.

 

 

Distinction Awards

A complete application for admission, test scores (sent from the testing company) and Distinction Scholarship application are necessary.

Montana State University will be offering a number of Distinction Awards to new non-resident freshmen who will enter MSU. To be considered, students must apply for admission, have ACT  and/or SAT scores sent to MSU and complete the Distinction Scholarship Application as soon as possible.

These awards will be targeted toward non-residents who do not meet our regular Achievement Award parameters. Leadership experience, activities, honors and financial need will be considered. Only those non-resident freshman who are not offered Achievement Awards need apply. Distinction Scholarships will not be stackable when students have been offered Achievement Awards. These awards will be applied toward tuition only.

Montana State University Academic Excellence WUE Award

To be considered, non-resident freshmen from WUE states must submit an application for admission complete with self-reported High School GPA and test scores (sent from the testing company).

A very limited number of MSU Academic Excellence Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) Awards will be available to new freshmen for the 2020/21 academic year. 

The Academic Excellence WUE Award is a scholarship that allows eligible recipients to reduce their tuition to 150% of the Montana resident tuition rate for up to 4 years. To be considered, non-resident freshmen from WUE states* must submit an application for admission (with self-reported GPA), test scores (sent directly from the testing company). For Fall 2020, the MSU Academic Excellence WUE Award will be worth a minimum of $16,600 per year (renewable).

MSU Academic Excellence WUE scholarships are highly competitive and require both high test scores and a high GPA. Due to the high value of WUE and the volume of applications, the number of WUE Awards available to new freshmen for the 2020/21 academic year will be limited. Initial awards will be offered to those with test scores of 27 and higher ACT composite or 1260 and higher SAT, and a 3.3 or greater cumulative GPA. Offers are limited. Apply early!

MSU will begin offering MSU Academic Excellence WUE Awards in fall 2019. Students who submit an application for admission, self-reported GPA and test scores (sent directly from the testing company) will be automatically considered for all non-resident Achievement Awards and MSU Academic Excellence WUE Awards. Students will be offered the award which they qualify for of the greatest value. WUE is not stackable with Achievement Awards or Distinction Scholarships. 

MSU Academic Excellence WUE Award recipients will be notified by mail. Only recipients will be notified.

 

To be eligible for MSU Academic Excellence WUE Award consideration, you must complete the following as soon as possible:

  1. Apply for admission to Montana State University.
    Be sure to include your self-reported GPA
  2. Have your official ACT and/or SAT test scores sent to Montana State University directly from the testing company.

 

*Only legal residents of the following states/territories may be considered for MSU Academic Excellence WUE Scholarships at Montana State University in Bozeman:

  • Alaska
  • Arizona
  • California
  • Colorado
  • Hawaii
  • Idaho
  • Nevada
  • New Mexico
  • North Dakota
  • Oregon
  • South Dakota
  • Utah
  • Washington
  • Wyoming
  • The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI).
  • Guam

MSU Academic Excellence WUE Award recipients must also be US Citizens or permanent residents.

Be sure to file your FAFSA by December 1, 2019 to be considered for federal grants, work-study, and student and parent loans, so that we can best meet your financial needs. Need and non-need based aid programs are available. Filing the FAFSA by this date will give you priority consideration for all financial assistance programs at Montana State University. Non-resident Achievement, WUE or Distinction Award recipients will be notified by mail. Only recipients will be notified. Your scholarship offer will be based on your official test scores (sent from the testing agency) and the high school information you report on your application for admission. All offers are subject to final verification and review.

 


Scholarship Deferment

Please be aware that MSU new student Premier, Achievement Award, Distinction and WUE scholarships are not deferrable and will be awarded to you for a specific start term that matches the start term on your application for admission. Scholarship parameters change every year.
