Scholarships for Non-Resident Freshmen

Montana State University will offer millions of dollars in scholarships and awards to non-resident freshmen who apply for admission.

To be eligible, you must complete the following as soon as possible:

  1. Apply for admission to Montana State University. Apply online at https://www.msuadmissions.org/application/.
  2. Have your official ACT and/or SAT test scores sent to Montana State University directly from the testing company. The ACT MSU school code is 2420. The SAT MSU school code is 4488.

It is essential to apply for admission and have your ACT and/or SAT test scores sent to Montana State University as soon as possible.

     Apply early!   These scholarships and awards may only be available for a limited time.

If you qualify, these scholarships will be automatically awarded when we have received your application and your ACT and/or SAT test scores. Scholarship recipients will be notified by mail.

If you are from one of the WUE states* listed below and have a 28 composite ACT or 1860 to 1910 total SAT you may be considered for WUE if spaces become available. Awards are limited. Apply early.

MSU Achievement Awards will be based upon ACT composite scores and/or total SAT scores (Math, Critical Reading and Writing). MSU will always take the highest score, whether it be ACT or SAT, that is sent from the official testing company.

*Western states participating in the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) Program: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

All Achievement Awards are designated for tuition only. If you are awarded a renewable Achievement or WUE Award, you must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or greater and maintain full-time, non-resident status and continuous enrollment to retain the award throughout your four years at MSU. MSU freshman scholarships and awards are available to those seeking undergraduate bachelor degree programs only.

MSU aims to make a college education affordable. Be sure to file your FAFSA by March 1, 2013 to apply for federal grants, work-study, and student and parent loans, so that we can best meet your financial needs. Need and non-need based aid programs are available. Filing the FAFSA by this date will give you priority consideration for all financial assistance programs at Montana State University. Our MSU school code is 002532. The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.gov.

As a condition of acceptance for any freshmen award, students must submit a Residence Hall Application as soon as possible. Students who have not already applied for housing, may download a housing application from the Residence Hall website at: http://www.montana.edu/reslife/. Exceptions to this rule may be made by contacting the Office of Residence Life.
