Montana State University Prestigious Awards

The deadline for all 2013 Homecoming award nominations is May 15, 2013.

Blue and Gold Award

This award is the most prestigious award granted by Montana State University. It honors individuals who have rendered great lifetime service or who have brought national or international distinction to MSU or the state of Montana. Candidates must have achieved prominence through a combination of his or her profession, family, country, world, university, philanthropy or humanity. Anyone can nominate an individual for a Blue and Gold Award. Recipients of the Blue and Gold Award are recommended by the MSU Alumni Foundation Board of Governors, to the President of the University. Awardees will be honored at an evening event on the Friday of Homecoming weekend.

College-specific

The following awards are given to graduates from each academic college at MSU. Awards will be presented by each college on the Friday before Homecoming at a daytime reception. Recipients will also be recognized at the Friday evening event.

Alumni Achievement Award

This award is given to a graduate from each MSU academic college with significant achievements in a specific field or endeavor since graduation. Specific selection criteria include: (1) distinguished professional achievement; (2) an outstanding record of service to the community; or (3) exemplary service to Montana State University. Recipients of this award are recommended by each college, to the MSU Alumni Foundation.

Distinguished Faculty Award (new)

This award recognizes a faculty member from each college for having distinguished herself or himself by meritorious service to his or her college in areas of teaching, research, leadership, achievement, mentoring, and outreach. The award recognizes one exceptionally accomplished faculty member and highlights the contributions he or she is making, or has made, to the college. The faculty member must: (1) be recognized nationally or internationally for his or her achievements, (2) have achieved a record judged by peers to be superior, and (3) have brought distinction to the college as a result of her or his activities. Emeriti are eligible.

Distinguished Staff Award (new)

This award recognizes a staff or non-Senate academic appointee from each college for having distinguished herself or himself in the areas of leadership, achievement, outreach, and/or meritorious service to the college. The award recognizes one personnel member for extraordinary contributions to the college, which may include but is not limited to improving or enhancing the quality of worklife in ways that make a substantial difference for the college; exceptional creativity and innovation; or outstanding results in areas of outreach, leadership, and service. The award recipient will be a college personnel member who has brought distinction to the college as a result of: (1) an exemplary record of sustained and acknowledged contribution to the quality of the college, (2) a dedication to the fulfillment of the college’s goals and mission, (3) professional accomplishments, and (4) college service. All staff titles are eligible.

Honorary Alumni Award (new)

This award recognizes a non-alumnus(a) whose extraordinary service has advanced the university and made significant and lasting contributions to the campus. The honoree’s professional, personal, civic and philanthropic pursuits must reflect the high standards and values associated with Montana State University, the MSU Alumni Foundation and higher education. Specific selection criteria include exceptional interest, dedication and/or service to MSU and candidate’s dedication and commitment have significantly enriched the substance and contributed to the reputation of MSU. This award will be given only in years when a deserving recipient is identified.
