Whereas, 30% of MSU students will face food insecurity at some point during their time at the University; and

Whereas, Food insecurity has been shown to decrease rates of academic retention and graduation, as well as decrease academic performance; and

Whereas, The strategic plans of Montana State University and the Division of Student Success prioritize student retention and graduation, health and wellbeing, and diversity and inclusion - The Food Security Scholarship Program embodies all three tenants of these strategic plans; and

Whereas, All 8 academic colleges at MSU as well as the Graduate School and Gallatin College have students that utilize the Bounty of the Bridgers MSU Food Pantry; and

Whereas, 33 students applied and received meal plan scholarships through the College of EHHD alone in the Spring of 2019; now, therefore, be it

Resolved, That ASMSU strongly encourages each College to adopt the Food Security Scholarship Program as outlined by the College of EHHD which awards each recipient a scholarship of $200 for 25 meals; and

Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be delivered to the Dean of the College of Letters and Science, Dr. Nicol Rae; Dean of the Norm Asbjornson College of Engineering, Dr. Brett Gunnink; Dean of the Jake Jabs College of Business and Entrepreneurship, Dr. Mark Ranalli; Dean of the College of Agriculture, Dr. Sreekala Bajwa; Dean of the College of Education, Health, and Human Development, Dr. Alison Harmon; Dean of the College of Arts and Architecture, Dr. Royce W.
