Banner 8 News

Banner 8 is LIVE!. Instructions for new features are available under Documentation on the right.

Thanks to all of our testers over the past months who helped to make the Banner 8 upgrade a success!

October 29, 2009

Searches for person records have changed in Banner 8, as noted in announcements and documentation. If you have an SSN you can enter it into the ID field for auto-population of the GID. If you get no response, then the SSN is not in Banner. In that case, simply do a person search as you did in the previous version. Changing the search function in this way protects our data from exposure of PII (Personally Identifiable Information) and is an important safeguard against identity theft.

New documentation is continually being posted for Banner users. The communications plan is nearing completion following repeated and varying messages to faculty, staff, and students regarding the system outage, PIN changes, security questions, feature changes, and data connectivity requirements.

Reports and applications created ad hoc across the campuses that connect to Banner data, such as Access databases or Crystal reports, need to be updated by their developers in conjunction with the Banner upgrade. The Banner team has no way of knowing about these ad hoc applications, who developed them, or who uses them now. The communications team is attempting to locate them by broadcasting the need for report and application upgrades to any potential users and let them know they need to contact their report/application developers and direct them to the documentation provided to update the ad hoc systems.

October 15, 2009

New documentation has been posted to help users update their report writing connection to Banner 8. Files include instructions for installing the new Oracle 10.2 ODBC driver, troubleshooting the driver installation, and connecting Crystal Reports 2008 to Banner after the ODBC driver has been installed.

Watch for upcoming documentation on working with third-party data in conjunction with the new character set capabilities in Banner 8.

October 11, 2009

Documentation has been posted for most feature changes in Banner 8 scheduled to go live October 27th. Documentation on ODBC driver connections and UTF-8 character handling is in progress and should be posted this week.
