07/08 Season 4/30/08 - The semester is over and the season is drawing to a close with some nice spring powder. I hope everyone had a great season, we did! Below is a brief recap of this year's club events. Drop us an email to join the mailing list or to get information about joining the club for the 08-09 season! backcountryridingclub@yahoo.com
British Columbia 2008 Spring Break Trip The club's Spring Break trip to British Columbia went off without a hitch and was an incredible time! The four of us based out of Nelson, BC for the first part of the trip, riding north near Retallack and south on Kootenay Pass. We found some tasty powder turns! Then we headed farther north to Canada's Glacier National Park and the legendary ski Mecca of Roger's Pass, which connects Revelstoke and Golden. We reserved one night in the Asulkan Hut, high up on the Asulkan Glacier. The day of our skin in dawned bluebird and we enjoyed breathtaking views and great snow. We logged a lot of untracked Glacier vert in those two days. This would not be a disappointing repeat trip in years to come. Thanks to the members that came along and made it happen!
BBQ Booter and Beacon Search
Our first club event this winter was a success! More than a dozen people came out to Beehive Basin to enjoy hamburgers, build a jump, and practice avalanche safety. I'd like to see this turn into an annual event! Everyone went big off the booter for the camera, and BBQ was delicious and everyone got to practice beacon searching and probing. Below are a few pictures from the event. Thanks to everyone who came out!
2007 Jackson Hole 6-Day Pass Sale
The Jackson Hole 6-Day Pass Sale went well again this year too. Six days of skiing for just $175! Many thanks to JHMR for offering this great deal. I hope everyone who got one is enjoying the record snowfall in Jackson this year. Jackson has had over 400" already this season, 100" more than last years total! Hopefully we'll get a repeat next year!
About Us... The Backcountry Riding Club was started in the fall of 2003. The club's purpose is to promote safe travel in backcountry terrain, increase the skill level of backcountry users and bring together like-minded ski and snowboard enthusiasts. The club provides an outlet for people to get together and go ride or ski in the backcountry that otherwise wouldn't. Not everybody knows someone who is willing to go out and earn their turns, and not everybody has the knowledge to explore backcountry terrain safely. We emphasize learning how to test and evaluate the stability of the snowpack, practicing proper beacon searches, navigating safe routes up, plus much more. The backcountry is a risky place and everyone must be well aware that you ski, ride and travel at your own risk. By participating in this club, we hope you will learn and apply the knowledge learned in the Basic Avalanche Workshop. You will also potentially learn even more from those members with a higher level of education and experience in backcountry terrain/travel who participate in the club. Disclaimer: members who go on trips together are NOT affiliated with the Backcountry Riding Club for liability reasons. They are simply friends that happen to be members of the same club partaking in the same activity. |
