Biological Spills

Emergency: Contact the Office of Biosafety for assistance with emergency spill clean-up: 994-6998 or kirk.lubick@montana.edu

Spill Reporting:

Spills > 1 liter are considered large spills and must be immediately reported to the Biosafety Officer at 994-6998 or kirk.lubick@montana.edu

Spills that result in potential exposure to BSL2 agents or that occur outside of the biosafety cabinet must be reported to the principal investigator.  The principal investigator must report the spill to the BSO.  The PI must also complete a First Report of Injury form.

Major spills inside a biological safety cabinet: contact the Office of Biosafety to determine if professional decontamination is indicated

Spills with recombinant or synthetic nucleic acids must be reported to NIH/OBA. Please complete the form at this link within 24 hours of the spill and send to Jo-An Lindstrom (lindstrom@montana.edu), MSU Assoc. Biosafety Officer who will then report the incident to OBA.
