As a young alumna or alumnus* of the College of Business & Entrepreneurship, you are a tremendous resource for future Jake Jabs College of Business & Entrepreneurship (JJCBE) graduates.  Your unique yet relevant post-college experiences, combined with your professional successes and challenges, provide students a glimpse into potential future career options. Alumni also play a vital role in providing students with the chance to expand their professional network and understand key employment qualifications for their field of interest.

The CATalyst Mentoring Program aims to facilitate professional connections between business students and alumni through a variety of events and/or one-on-one mentoring. You can be the CATalyst for a student and their dreams by sharing your story and knowledge through any or all of these opportunities, as your schedule allows. CATalyst events and opportunities are scheduled throughout the academic year and are focused on various career fields. We hope you will choose to be a part of the CATalyst mentoring program.

CATalyst Events & Opportunities

Panel Conversations: 10/17/2017

Consider being a part of a small panel of alumni to share your industry insight. One panel will cover Accounting and Finance while the other will cover Management and Marketing. Panels will take place on Tuesday, October 17 at 5:00pm in Jabs Hall.

Commitment:

  • 1-2 hours of speaking with and answering questions for a group of about 20 students; will occur with 1 or 2 other alumni.
  • Volunteer application required.

Informational Interviews

Are you ready for 20 (or more) questions? Help a student learn about your industry by answering their individual questions. This can range from what a typical day in your life looks like, to salary ranges, to classes you wish you had taken.

  • 1-2 hours of speaking with and answering questions for an individual student at your office or an agreed upon location.
  • Volunteer application required.

Job Shadowing

As requested by students, we will match you with a student who is interested in your line of work and would like a tour of your company. You will guide them through the areas of the company that are crucial to its success, share any relevant challenges and do your best to answer the student’s questions about the day-to-day happenings in your office and/or job.  Allow the student to walk through a day of work with you.

  • A genuine interest in the professional success of a MSU business student.
  • The desire to be an advocate for the MSU Jake Jabs College of Business and Entrepreneurship.

  • Date determined by your availability.  Volunteer application required.

One-on-One Mentoring

As requested by students, we will match you with a student who is interested in your line of work and would like to meet with you on a monthly or bi-monthly basis for the duration of a semester. You will meet with the student (in person or via phone) in a public location of choice to assist them with professional career questions, resume critiques and/or interview coaching, provide your own insight into potential paths or opportunities, and encourage them in their pursuit of a MSU Business degree.

Commitment:

  • A genuine interest in the professional success of a MSU business student.
  • The desire to be an advocate for the MSU Jake Jabs College of Business and Entrepreneurship.
