BMKT 491 - Special Topics: Innovative Ideation

Jacob Cook, a cofounder at Tadpull and JJCBE’s academic director for Digital Marketing & Analytics program. An adjunct professor for ten years, Jake has created and taught digital marketing, entrepreneurship and innovation courses at the undergraduate, graduate and executive education level.

Given the speed at which marketing is changing today, Jake is deeply passionate about sharing his real-world experience with students in the classroom. He has open-sourced a digital marketing textbook for beginners at OnDigitalMarketing.com which attracts students from around the world. Alumni from his "Integrated Online Marketing" course have gone on to positions embedded at Google as part of R/GA, Yelp, CBS Interactive, and a host of startups. Jake was recently selected as “Outstanding Marketing Professor of the Year” by the student chapter of the American Marketing Association in 2016.

Design Sandbox for Engaged Learning
Jake was a founding member of the Design Sandbox for Engaged Learning (DSEL) which is an interdisciplinary program pairing students from colleges across campus to engage in interdisciplinary courses. His current course, "Innovative Ideation" focuses on teaching the fundamentals of design thinking inspired in large part by Stanford's d.school and "Design for Extreme Affordability" course. Students apply these concepts for real-world problems such as Designing for the Third Act of Life with local senior citizens.

Real-World Experience
At Tadpull, Jake spends his days as part of an interdisciplinary team that develops online brands using a blend of data, user empathy, interactive design, and smart technology. The company is also working on software for helping ecommerce marketers manage online campaigns and inventory. Client engagements have included Google, Microsoft, The Webby Awards, The Lowline NYC, DonorsChoose.org, Jackson Hole Resort, Outdoor Research, Medallia, and most recently a startup funded on ABC’s SharkTank.
