Stakeholder Input Forums Held Jan. 25 and 26, 2006

Thanks to all who attended the Stakeholder Input Forums. Watch for the results to be posted here. We are compiling and analyzing approximately 1,200 comments that were submitted during the forums.

INTRODUCTION

A university’s buildings and landscape reflect the ideals of the institution and influence the process of learning. The essence of a campus’ beauty resides in the character of its buildings and grounds. A campus plan provides planning principles and guidelines which ensure that future buildings, infrastructure, and landscape are well conceived and designed. Ultimately, the plan is used as a guideline to honor and preserve the university’s history, while striving to support and advance its future aspirations.

WHY A CAMPUS PLAN?

The primary purpose of the "campus master planning" project is to establish a consensus vision for the physical development of the campus environment over the next 25 to 50 years that is comprehensive, creative, useful and most importantly— inspiring. More...

GOALS

To investigate the physical facilities implications of MSU’s 5 Year Vision
To distinguish between physical and non-physical solution possibilities
To investigate what on- and off-campus stakeholders want the campus environment to become
To investigate current planning challenges, historical planning precedents, and real planning constraints
To illustrate and test potential planning options
To establish a consensus vision for the physical development of the campus environment that is practical, useful, and most importantly inspiring
To establish physical planning principles and guidelines to inform the coherent implementation of the consensus vision over the coming years while allowing sufficient flexibility to positively respond to specific challenges and opportunities
