PREREQUISITE: First year students (less than 30 credits) only.
-- This multi-disciplinary course, presented in seminar format, draws
from the disciplines of psychology, sociology, history, and philosophy
and encourages students to explore issues critical to their academic
goals and objectives. The course emphasizes verbal communication,
critical thinking, intellectual development, and academic choices.
Fulfills university seminar requirement of the core curriculum.
This course cannot be repeated.
US 102 CAREER CONNECTIONS

-- Course is designed to assist students in the selection of a major
in accordance with their interests and abilities.
US 121US EDUCATION, SOCIAL ISSUES,
AND THE DIGITAL AGE

PREREQUISITE: Successful completion of at least 12credits, including
WRIT 101W or its equivalent.
-- This multi-disciplinary course, delivered in an online seminar format,
draws from psychology, sociology, history, and philosophy and asks students
to consider the role of education in their lives and the social responsibilities
of educated, engaged individuals living in the digital age. The course
emphasizes critical thinking, communication and support of ideas, and
intellectual development. US 121US fulfills the university seminar requirement
of the core curriculum. This course cannot be repeated.
US 191 SPECIAL TOPICS
On Demand 1 cr.
PREREQUISITE: Course prerequisites as determined for each offering.
-- Courses not required in any curriculum for which there is a particular
one-time need, or given on a trial basis to determine acceptability
and demand.
US 202 LEADERSHIP FELLOWS I

-- Introductory course for students pursuing the MSU Leadership Fellows
Certificate. Examines leadership for change through case studies of
organizations on campus, in the community, and nationally.
US 290R UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH

-- Directed undergraduate research which may culminate in a written
work or other creative project. Course will address responsible conduct
of research.
US 291 SPECIAL TOPICS

PREREQUISITE: Accepted Peer Leader Status, Restricted Entry.
-- Provides selected upper division students an opportunity to develop
leadership and mentoring skills through the involvement with the US
101US First Year Seminar course. Includes training in group leadership
and includes topics such as counseling and communication skills, student
development, problem solving, and conflict resolution. Peer leaders
work closely with faculty to enhance the academic, cultural, and social
experiences of students in the seminar course.
US 490R UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH/CREATIVE
ACTIVITY

PREREQUISITE: Junior standing, consent of instructor, and approval of
the Director of University Studies.
-- An individual assignment arranged with an agency, business, or other
organization to provide guided experience in the field.
