| A highly respected member of
the collegiate coaching ranks, he was selected as an assistant coach on the U.S. women’s indoor
track team which competed at the 1989 World Indoor Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
In addition, he has been regional coordinator for the U.S. Olympic Development camps, and
serves as a Level I instructor for the USATF coaching education program.Favorite quote: “Your level of
expectation determines your limits of reality.” His favorite film is Something’s Gotta Give, but he
also likes Top Gun, mostly because of the opening scenes. His favorite song is The River, by Garth
Brooks. His junior high and high school coaches were a great influence in his life, as is his good friend
and 1980 Olympic coach, Ken Foreman. Dale began his teaching and coaching career in the small
town of Pe Ell in western Washington. He coached two years there, followed by two years in Winlock,
another small town in the same corner of the State. He then moved back to his alma mater, Central
Valley High School, in Spokane, where he taught and coached for five years before moving to the
women’s track and cross country coaching position at Spokane Community College. In 1981, he
left Spokane to join the Athletic staff at MSU, where he has enjoyed coaching for the last 26 years.
Kennedy has been married to his wife Terry (Finch) for 40 years. They have two grown children.
Their son Pat and daughter-in-law Paris live in northwestern Washington. Their daughter Kim and
her husband Paul are new parents, making Dale and Terry enthusiastic, first-time grandparents to grandson,
Baron. |
