Departmental Information |
The MSU Computer Science Department has approximately 150
undergraduates and 40 graduate students. Its 9 full-time faculty
offer Ph.D., M.S., and B.S. (ABET-accredited) degrees in Computer
Science. The department prides itself on its growing research
endeavors and its innovative curriculum. It attracts highly
capable students, including five Goldwater scholars and five USA
Today Academic All Americans in recent years. The department
enjoys strong ties with local industry. Interdisciplinary
collaboration is a strength of the department. The College of
Engineering, to which the department belongs, has been recognized
as one of the Hewlett Foundation's nine Engineering Schools of
the West. The college represents the largest collection of
professional programs in our five-state region.
Montana State University is a Carnegie Foundation Tier 1 research university with an enrollment of approximately 12,000. MSU has a number of research centers including the Center for Biofilm Engineering, the Center for Computational Biology, and the Western Transportation Institute. MSU is located in Bozeman, a picturesque Rocky Mountain community of 40,000, situated 90 miles north of Yellowstone National Park. Nearby outdoor recreation includes world-class downhill and cross-country skiing, fishing, backpacking, camping, and wildlife watching. Bozeman enjoys excellent schools and medical services comparable to those found in much larger communities. Bozeman offers a unique combination of culture, excellent restaurants, and small-town charm. Colorado College ranked the Bozeman area as the healthiest place to live in the Rocky Mountains and gave the area top scores in livability, vibrancy, and vitality. Skiing Magazine recently identified Bozeman as the fourth top US skiing town. Fly Rod & Reel ranked MSU as the number one college in North America and said that "one would be hard pressed to find a better college or location than Bozeman". A 3-year start-up package that includes additional salary is being provided by RightNow Technologies. RightNow Technologies is a leading provider of next-generation Customer Relationship Management solutions to more than 1,800 companies and government agencies worldwide. RightNow is headquartered in Bozeman where 350 of its 650 world-wide employees work. A significant portion of RightNow's workforce consists of MSU graduates. RightNow sponsors scholarships, the department's Industrial Affiliates program, and internships that employ between 5-10 students a semester. Duties and Responsibilities |
The ideal candidate will be a computing researcher with
established or rising prominence in the field. The position will
enable the candidate to elevate his or her career to the next
level while helping to further develop the MSU Computer Science
department's research portfolio. The position will provide an
enhanced opportunity to work with industry and government and to
engage the research community both on and off campus.
The successful applicant will join the existing faculty in developing and maintaining an active research program. Performance expectations also include teaching and mentoring Ph.D., M.S., and B.S. students in the classroom and on research projects while conveying enthusiasm for the discipline. All faculty members are required to be active in service to the department, university and/or the profession. There is an expectation that the successful applicant will help the department grow its graduate programs. | ||||||||||||||
