Salary $22,500 yearly for 0.5 FTE (1/2 time). There is a possibility of future increase to 0.75 FTE (3/4 time).

Information
The BSL-3 facility at MSU was certified by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 2007 and meets or exceeds all standards for BSL-3 and ABSL-3 work set by the CDC and NIH in the BMBL guidelines. It currently serves four principal investigators from MSU and collaborating researchers from two outside institutions. The facility has three laboratories, an equipment room, animal housing and procedure rooms, and various anterooms to facilitate entry and exit of personnel, equipment and supplies from the containment area.
 
Duties and
Responsibilities
The role of the Laboratory Manager is to provide management of the Biosafety Level Three (BSL-3) facility at Montana State University. The Laboratory Manager reports directly to the BSL-3 Facility Director and works closely with the Science Director, Animal Care Director, and Safety Directors to provide a productive, safe, and operational laboratory environment that complies with all federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Specific duties will include: Ensures that all policies, procedures and practices are being observed by BSL-3 personnel; Provides facility maintenance oversight in cooperation with Facilities Services personnel; Working with the Biosafety and Occupational Health Officers, ensures that all staff have met the appropriate criteria prior to gaining entry to the BSL-3; submits the recommendations to the Laboratory Director for final approval; Coordinates training for all personnel that enter the BSL-3; Organizes cleaning rotation of the BSL-3 personnel; Coordinates with the University s Safety and Risk Management office regarding occupational health and biosafety issues concerning BSL-3 personnel; Manages and coordinates the daily operation of both the laboratory and animal housing portions of the BSL3; Performs facility budget management including arranging for bids and selecting vendors for purchasing supplies or providing services; Evaluates facilities, equipment and supply needs to ensure adequate resources are available to support the work in the facility; Assists the Director in writing, implementation and evaluation of standard operating procedures (SOPs); Responsible for evaluating current operations and periodically updating SOPs at the request of the Director. Will also perform duties related to regulatory compliance, training and customer service and support.

Required
Qualifications
1.     Bachelors Degree in a Biological Science from an accredited four-year college.
 
2. Certification of completion of an approved BSL-3 training program.
 
Preferred
Qualifications
1.     Substantial experience working in a research laboratory.
 
2. Experience working with Biosafety Level 3 pathogens.
 
3. Experience working with mice in an ABSL-3 facility.
 
4. Successful experience in supervising and managing.
