KUSM-TV is a public broadcasting television station licensed to Montana State University in Bozeman. The station, together with KUFM-TV, licensed to The University of Montana in Missoula, comprise MontanaPBS, a state-wide television service, reaching over 260,000 households located in nearly 150 communities. KUSM also works with the MSU Media & Theatre Arts academic department to provide a real-world television environment for student laboratory and internship coursework. Additionally, KUSM offers complete television production services to on-campus departments, other public agencies, and, as appropriate, to the private sector.
 
Duties and
Responsibilities
The General Manager is an employee of Montana State University and reports into the Vice President of Communications and Public Affairs. The General Manager s responsibilities include: Developing and implementing the necessary vision and strategic plans to insure the long-term strength and growth of KUSM and MontanaPBS; Planning, organizing, staffing, and controlling the daily management of KUSM, by providing creative leadership, proper financial direction and control, and by overseeing the various divisions of the television station; Representing KUSM and MontanaPBS across the state to a variety of administrative, legislative, and other public agencies, as well as to private individuals and organizations, in order to encourage broad public interest, cultivate goodwill, develop new and creative means of financial support, and to sustain an open and stable operational environment; working closely with the KUFM-TV General Manager to support and manage the MontanaPBS service and assert the editorial integrity and independence of MontanaPBS. Serving as a member of the Friends of MontanaPBS Board of Directors, and working with the Board and other volunteers to support its activities; Serving as an adjunct professor with the College of Arts and Architecture and working in close collaboration with the MSU department of Media and Theatre Arts academic program. Fostering opportunities for students who plan to enter broadcasting or related fields, by developing internships and part-time employment opportunities throughout the station.

In addition, the General Manager of KUSM is also responsible for oversight of the following areas that are administered on a departmental level: Fiscal management of the station including financial projections and departmental budgets, University, State, and Federal accountancy, and all activities related to various public and private granting agencies; Fundraising and relationship development; Administration of grant applications; Acquisition and scheduling of programming; Educational outreach; Engineering operation, acquisition and maintenance and compliance with the rules and regulations of the Federal Communications Commission, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the Public Broadcasting Service, the State of Montana, Montana State University, and other controlling agencies, as well as KUSM s own internal policies.

 
Required
Qualifications
1.     Bachelor s Degree.
 
2. Professional experience in the broadcasting field which includes senior management experience in one or more of these broadcast areas programming, production, fundraising, promotions, outreach or engineering.
 
3. Demonstrated leadership ability in mission identification, goal setting, and planning and organizing departmental resources.
 
4. Experience in financial management.
 
5. Working knowledge of current FCC regulations, as well as the demonstrated ability to successfully interpret and apply the rules of Federal, State, and local agencies, which affect broadcasting.
 
6. Experience with fundraising activities.
 
7. Demonstrated successful project collaboration with a variety of partners.
 
8. Experience in public and governmental relations.
 
Preferred
Qualifications
1.     Specific working knowledge of those rules, regulations, policies, and procedures that control public broadcasting.
 
2. Experience working with a non-profit agency and its board of directors.
 
3. Experience in public television, especially with a University Licensee.
 
4. Experience working in a post-secondary academic environment with faculty, administration and students.
