Duties and
Responsibilities
Experienced research professional is needed in a laboratory that studies chronic wasting disease and other prion diseases. Research projects include 1) biochemical and structural analysis of the prion protein, 2) mechanism(s) of prion agent transport in the nervous system, and 3) design and construction of vectors for expression of the prion protein in vitro and in production of transgenic mice. The primary research duties for this position include tissue dissection of rodents, protein purification and Western blot analysis, and the construction of plasmids for expression in vitro and in vivo.
 
Required
Qualifications
1.     M.S. degree in a biomedical discipline **OR** an undergraduate degree in the biomedical sciences with additional advanced training in laboratory research.
 
Preferred
Qualifications
1.     Experience in one or more of the following areas is strongly preferred: biochemical and/or structural protein techniques, molecular cloning and gene expression techniques, small animal dissections, neuroanatomy or neuroanatomical tracing techniques.
 
2. A record of authorship in peer-reviewed publications.
 
The Successful
Candidate Will
have good organizational, communication, and computer skills. They will display an aptitude for establishing and maintaining constructive working relationships with other laboratory personnel (currently 10 people) in a collaborative environment. It is expected that the individual can work independently once job training is complete. Paying attention to detail and orderliness are required.
