BUS 211 Self Assessment Procedures

In order to be successful in each of the courses in the College of Business pre-core, it is essential to have the pre-requisite skills and knowledge required for each course.  On the graduation worksheet for your option, there are two courses in information systems required to complete your degree requirements:

• BUS 211 - Business Software Applications, is a skills-based course taken in the sophomore year in which you will utilize word-processing, spreadsheet, database management and presentation skills. The course is designed to both teach some intermediate skills with a primary focus on application of those skills in problem-solving and decision making. The course is not designed for students with elementary skill levels.
• BUS 311 - Information Systems, is a concepts-based course in which students apply advanced skills to support managerial decision-making.

Assessing whether you are ready for BUS 211 is an important step in your academic planning.  We recommend you take the following self-assessments to diagnose whether you are ready for the course:

Once you have assessed your skill level, you can make an informed choice about whether you are prepared to take BUS 211.  If you are not proficient in all the tasks in the assessment, you have several options:  you may take CS 150, Computer Literacy, or take advantage of the numerous software tutorials available on-line.

Please be aware that on the first day of class in BUS 211, you will take an entrance exam which will cover tasks similar to those covered in the self-assessment.  If you do not pass the entrance exam, you will be required to drop the course.

Plan ahead and be prepared.
