College of Business Hosts 2006 Annual Scholarship Dinner

The scholarships, announced Wednesday, February 22, at the College's annual scholarship banquet, were generated from endowments and funds set up to specifically grant financial aid to students enrolled in the MSU College of Business.

Adjunct professor of accounting, Micki Munro, was the night's keynote speaker. Munro explained how she had come "full circle," with the College of Business. It was 12 years ago that Munro was herself a College of Business student receiving a scholarship. Since then, she has gone out and worked in the "real world."

She offered four lessons that she has learned in her career: 1. Everyone, whether it is the CEO or the janitor of your company has something to offer, so listen; 2. You must go outside of your comfort level to grow; 3. Start creating relationships now with your classmates and professors. These relationships will prove to be invaluable in the future; and, 4. Don t say anything you don t want repeated. "This one," she said, "I learned this one from my parrot, Sophie."

Munro concluded by explaining how she completed the circle. She said she and her husband, out of appreciation for her education, set up a scholarship. She said, "I wanted to help make a difference in other students lives." She continued, "Without a doubt, the joy I receive from awarding this scholarship far surpasses that joy I felt 12 years ago when I received my scholarship."
