MSU-College of Business Faculty and Staff Recognized
Each spring MSU recognizes top faculty members in research,
teaching, outreach and creative projects. This year, three
College of Business faculty members were presented with
prestigious and highly competitive campus-wide awards. The
College of Business Code of Excellence award is also presented
each spring to the person who most exemplifies the core values of
the College.
Linda Ward, assistant to the Director of the Bracken Center, is a
familiar face around Reid Hall. She was voted by her peers to be
worthy of the 2007 Code of Excellence Award. Susan Dana, the
Director of the Bracken Center, proudly stated, "Linda has become
the heart of the student experience at the College, and her
winning this award amounts to well-deserved recognition by the
entire College of Linda's enormous positive effect on the lives
of all members of the College community."
Dan Moshavi, associate professor of management, received the 2007
Cox Family Award for Creative Scholarship and Teaching. Moshavi
teaches courses across the business curriculum and has been an
enormous asset to the College of Business for the past seven
years. He earned a Ph.D. in management and organizational studies
from the University of Oregon and both a master's and bachelor's
degree from George Washington University in Washington DC. His
research focuses on professional services management, social
power in the classroom and leadership education and development.
In the classroom, Moshavi utilizes the tools of improvisation,
wit, and positive regard to facilitate team building, learning
and creativity among his students. Students appreciate the
enthusiasm he demonstrates and his ability to teach to all
learning styles, indicated by the consistently high scores he
receives on student evaluations.
Christie Johnson, associate professor of accounting, won the Anna
K. Fridley Distinguished Teaching Award presented by the Phi
Kappa Phi honorary. She earned a MBA from the University of
Wyoming. Johnson is a licensed CPA and has been with the College
of Business faculty since 1980. In her years at MSU, Christie
Johnson has accumulated over 15 MSU Excellence Awards, the MSCPA
outstanding accounting educator award, and has published
pedagogical materials with top selling textbooks as well as
presented teaching innovations at national conferences. She plays
an integral part of the accounting faculty as the chair of the
Meet the Accounting Recruiters event. In addition to instructing
students, she also takes an active role in the College as the
advisor to the Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) chapter, which has achieved
the highest national ranking for more than ten years in a row.
Students are her top priority; she agrees with her early mentor
that it is "a privilege to be a teacher."
Agnieszka Bielinska-Kwapisz, visiting assistant professor, was
presented with a 2007 President's Excellence in Teaching Award.
She earned a Ph.D. in economics from Georgia State University and
her M.S. in mathematics from Gdansk University in Poland. Kwapisz
