Faculty

Cap and gown are required for faculty. Please see our Regalia Information page for more information. 

The Faculty Line of March for the Processional will assemble in the NORTH tunnel of the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.

Please note: Some faculty will line up in a separate area for the Major Professor & Doctoral Student Processional.  The Associate and Assistant Deans will sit with their individual college bachelor degree candidates. 

Morning Ceremony

Please arrive for lineup at 8:00 am

Our morning ceremony will begin at 9:00am and end at approximately 11:00am

The processional will begin at 8:40am

Our morning ceremony will celebrate the following colleges: 

  • College of Agriculture
  • Norm Asbjornson College of Engineering
  • College of Nursing
  • Gallatin College
Afternoon Ceremony

Please arrive for lineup at 12:30 pm

Our afternoon ceremony will begin at 1:30pm and end at approximately 3:30pm

The processional will begin at 1:10pm

Our afternoon ceremony will celebrate the following colleges: 

  • College of Arts and Architecture
  • Jake Jabs College of Business and Entrepreneurship
  • College of Education, Health and Human Development
  • College of Letters and Science


There will be a designated area on the floor in front of Section 111 of bleachers for Faculty members to greet their students as they come off of the stage. It is important that Faculty wishing to greet their students remain in this area to ensure clear lines of sight for photographers and to maintain the flow of traffic.  

 

It is imperative that faculty members RSVP in order for us to set enough chairs to ensure that you are all seated together at the front of the arena. 

 

Student Banner Marshals

Regalia will be provided by Registrar's Office on the day of the Commencement Ceremony. However, please still dress professionally, as you will be representing Montana State University.

Commencement Day Instructions

Morning Ceremony

Preparation

  • Arrive to designated location at 7:45 a.m. Breakfast will be provided, please help yourselves! A staff member from the Registrar's Office will escort you to the staging area.
  • SIGN IN! There will be a sheet posted on the door, please write legibly so that we can ensure you are compensated for your time.
  • Find a gown that fits and collect your banner to carry.
  • At 8:30 a.m., process to your designated area with your banner. Find your specific college and wait for your turn to enter the arena.

Processional

  • At 8:40 a.m., the music will begin and this will start the processional.
  • Lead your college in and stand aside while they file into their seats. There will be ushers guiding the students into the seats, so please step back, but do not leave your college until after all of them have been seated in their rows.
  • Once your college has been seated, process to the back of the arena and place your banner in its proper stand (they will be labeled) then go and stand in front of your chair.
  • Please remain standing until President Cruzado has asked you to be seated.

Ceremony

  • When prompted, collect your banner, walk to your designated college and usher them to the stage. You will walk across the stage with the banner. There will be a second marshal to count students to make sure all graduates from that college follow you up to the stage.
  • After crossing the stage with your banner, return to the floor to the first row of where your college was seated to act as a marker.
  • After all students in your college have been seated, please return the banner to the stand and take your seat when done.

After Ceremony

  • After the ceremony, please take your satin banners back to the staging area.
  • Lunch will be provided for the group, a staff member from the Registrar's Office will show you where to pick up a boxed lunch and where our team will be sitting.
  • Please make sure you are back to the staging area by 12:30 p.m. to begin preparation for the Afternoon ceremony.
Afternoon Ceremony

Preparation

  • Arrive at the  staging area at 12:30 p.m.
  • Find a gown that fits and collect your banner to carry.
  • At 1:00 p.m., process to your designated area with your banner.
  • Find your specific college and wait for your turn to enter the arena.

Processional

  • At 1:10 p.m., the music will begin and this will start the processional.
  • Lead your college in and stand aside while they file into their seats.
  • There will be ushers guiding the students into the seats, so please step back, but do not leave your college until after all of them have been seated in their rows.
