10,000 Hours Project
What is it?
The 10000 Hours Program (10K) is a year round campus engagement effort that connects students to their community. Adopted by the United Way of America in 2006, 10K projects recruit and recognize student volunteers. More specifically, student volunteers who complete a locally-determined service commitment (usually 10 hours) with a non-profit organization receive a free ticket to a concert which is put on just for volunteers.
Since its start at the University of Iowa in 2002, campuses and students across the nation have documented the donation of over 110,000 hours of community service. Successful programs have been coordinated at Drake University, the University of Iowa, the University of Arizona, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison just to name a few. With their record of commitment and experience the Office for Community Involvement is convinced that 10K will be equally successful at Montana State University.
What are the projects goals?
- Advance the common good on campus and in the community
- Help students develop leadership skills and citizenship
- Bring greater visibility to Montana State University’s commitment to the community
