Academic Programs

MSU offers an array of academic programs for students to pursue a Career in the Common Good. Careers in the Common Good are careers that have a strong ethic of social responsibility to meet the needs in the community.  Students studying to become architects, counselors, health care professionals, nurses, and teachers have become Campus Corps members to meet the needs in the community through their academic studies.

Architecture students participating in the Community Design Center work with non profit community groups, tribal agencies, and city/county municipalities to bring their visions to completion through the utilization of their design concepts, knowledge, and skills. The students gain experience working with classmates and community partners to bring conceptual designs to fruition.

Counseling students participating in their practicum and internships at nonprofit organizations and schools have participated in Campus Corps. The counseling students are expanding their skill sets while meeting the mental health needs of youth and adults in the community.

Education students participating in student teaching at a school with students in need of additional educational support and instruction have participated in Campus Corps. The student teachers work with students in the school to identify and meet the needs of the students to enhance the students’ learning experience.

Nursing students participating in clinical rotations at non profit clinics, schools, and city/county/state programs provide nursing care to community members. The nursing students develop a public health project to address a need in the community and provide educational outreach to community members.

WWAMI Medical students participating in R/UOP provide medical services to rural and underserved populations at nonprofit clinics. The medical students also develop a research project about a health condition that is affecting the community and deliver the information to the community to improve the health of community members.
