Local MSU students named Women of Achievement

April 23, 2002 -- Brenda McDonald
Bozeman - Phenocia Bauerle and Courtney Lynn Paterson of Bozeman were presented a Women of Achievement award by Montana State University-Bozeman Women's Center, and the MSU Alumni Association. The award is presented annually to outstanding female leaders on the MSU campus.

Bauerle, an English major and an enrolled member of the Crow Nation, has garnered nationwide notice this year for a book of Crow stories, "The Way of the Warrior: Stories from Along the Elk River," to be published next spring by the prestigious University of Nebraska Press. In addition to editing the book, she has also received a Rockefeller Brothers Fund Fellowship, a national award honoring distinguished minority students and she was the head woman dancer for the 2002 Indian Club Pow Wow. Bauerle was also one of just 20 students across the country named to the USA Today All-American Academic Team. She is the daughter of Peter and Patricia Bauerle.

Paterson, a biomedical science major, has received an Undergraduate Scholars Program Fellowship and was a Rhodes Scholarship semifinalist. She received one of the 40 Awards for Excellence winners this year at MSU. She is also a member of Alpha Epsilon Delta, Septemviri, Phi Kappa Ph, Mortar Board and Golden Key. She is the daughter of John and Diana Paterson.

Award winners are graduating seniors who have been successful in their academic careers, have demonstrated leadership, have been involved in extracurricular activities and have a breadth of interests and involvement.
