Distinguished Professor to give inaugural lecture March 27

March 20, 2007 -- From MSU News Service
BOZEMAN -- Al Jesaitis, one of four newly-named Letters and Science Distinguished Professors at Montana State University, will give his inaugural lecture at 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, in room 275 of the Strand Union Building on the MSU campus.

His lecture, titled "The Neutrophil Army: Invasion, Mayhem, and Resolution," will be followed by a reception hosted by the College of Letters and Science. The public is welcome.

Jesaitis, a microbiology professor, earned his doctorate from the California Institute of Technology, came to MSU in 1989, and headed the microbiology department from 1992 to 1998. His landmark scientific research on the human neutrophil has contributed significantly to the treatment of inflammatory diseases.

John Borkowski, Larry Carucci, and Rufus Cone were the other three professors named as L&S Distinguished Professors. All four were recognized for their contributions to the College of Letters and Science, to MSU, and to the scholarly community at large, said Dean George Tuthill. Carucci will give his inaugural lecture in April.
