Expert on stem cell research to speak April 20 at MSU

Irving Weissman
BOZEMAN -- A Great Falls native with a world-wide reputation for stem cell research will speak Friday, April 20, at Montana State University.

Dr. Irving Weissman, director of the Institute of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine at Stanford University, will give a free public lecture on "Stem Cell Research and the Future" from 3:10 to 4:30 p.m. in Ballroom D of the Strand Union Building. His talk is sponsored by the MSU College of Letters and Science.

Weissman graduated from Montana State College in 1961 and received an honorary doctorate from MSU in 1992. He recently received the Linus Pauling Medal for Outstanding Contributions to Science, the Rabbi Shai Shacknai Memorial Prize in Immunology and Cancer Research, and the New York Academy of Sciences Council Medal for Distinguished Contributions to Biomedical Research. He holds multiple professorships at Stanford University in pathology, developmental biology, neurosurgery and biological sciences.
