2007 Harold Watling Scholarship recipients announced

Students from Forsyth and Columbia Falls have received the 2007 Harold Watling Scholarships, which recognizes outstanding achievement by an undergraduate senior in the pre-medical curriculum at Montana State University.

Madeline Turner of Forsyth was one of the recipients. The $750 award was presented at the initiation and award ceremony of Alpha Epsilon Delta, the health professions scholastic honorary society at MSU. Turner, a graduate of Forysth High School, will graduate this spring with a degree in biomedical sciences. She has been accepted to the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle.

Michael P. Wright of Columbia Falls also received a 2007 Harold Watling Scholarship. The $750 award was presented at the initiation and award ceremony of Alpha Epsilon Delta. Wright, a graduate of Columbia Falls High School, will graduate this spring with degrees in biochemistry and in biomedical sciences. He has been accepted to the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle.

Harold Watling was a professor of zoology at MSU from 1947-1980 and a premedical adviser. The scholarship was started by one of Watling's former students, Dr. David Burgan of Polson.
