Katherine Burke, acting senior associate dean of the college at Dartmouth College, has been named the new dean of students at Montana State University.
An attorney by training, Burke has been at the Ivy League school in Hanover, N.H. since 1987. She began her career there in judicial affairs and as assistant legal counsel, and served as undergraduate class dean for the classes of 1992, 1993, 1996 and 1999. Over the course of her career at Dartmouth, she also served as director of Hopkins Center Student Programs, director of community relations and deputy director of the college's Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action Programs. Her campus involvement has included coordinating the institution's first NCAA re-certification process, serving on numerous campus committees ranging from commencement and off-campus activities to disabilities access and institutional diversity and equity, and serving as chair of the College's disciplinary committee.
Burke graduated from the University of New Hampshire and the University of Maine School of Law and is a member of the New Hampshire Bar Association.
Burke, who will begin her duties at MSU in the fall of 2008, replaces Courtney Stryker who left MSU last year to work at a university in the United Arab Emirates.
