Sept. 19 reception to honor MSU's newest distinguished professors

BOZEMAN -- A public reception to honor the two newest Letters and Science Distinguished Professors at Montana State University will be held at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, in the Leigh Lounge of MSU's Strand Union Building.
Greg Keeler and John P. Miller were named Distinguished Professors for their contributions to the College of Letters and Science, to MSU, and to the scholarly community at large, said Paula Lutz, dean of the college. Their three-year appointments are accompanied by a $4,000 a year stipend. Keeler and Miller will give public lectures during the coming academic year.
Keeler has taught in MSU's Department of English since 1975. He is a well-known writer with an exceptional record of publication in fiction, nonfiction, playwriting, songwriting, and poetry. He has published seven books of poetry;"Waltzing with the Captain," a biography of Richard Brautigan; a number of musical plays, and innumerable articles, essays, book chapters and songs.
Miller, professor of neurophysiology in the Department of Cell Biology and Neuroscience, joined the MSU faculty as director of the Center for Computational Biology in 1997. He is internationally recognized for his pioneering research in computational neuroscience, or how nervous systems process information.
