Mosley elected to lead Society for Range Management

BOZEMAN -- Jeff Mosley of Montana State University has been elected to lead the international Society for Range Management. He will serve as second vice-president from 2008-2009, first vice-president from 2009-2010 and president from 2010-2011.
Mosley, a professor of range science and Extension Range Management Specialist, is the first MSU faculty member to lead the SRM in its 60-year history. He was installed recently during the society's annual meeting in Louisville, Ky. SRM is the professional and scientific voice for rangeland scientists and managers throughout North America and the world.
"I am very honored and humbled to serve SRM in this new role," Mosley said. "I joined SRM during my undergraduate student days at MSU, and I've been an active member ever since. I have tremendous respect for SRM and its history, and I'm looking forward to helping the people of SRM accomplish even more in the years ahead.
"It is a privilege to represent MSU in this way and to help guide the future of rangeland management," Mosley continued.
Mosley joined MSU's Department of Animal and Range Sciences in 1995. An MSU alumnus, he holds graduate degrees from the University of Idaho and Texas Tech University. He was a faculty member at the University of Arizona and the University of Idaho.
Mosley's research and Extension efforts at MSU focus on sustaining rangelands and the values they provide, including wildlife habitat, livestock forage, clean air and water, scenic beauty and open space. Approximately 70 percent of Montana and 45 percent of the United States' land area is classified as rangeland.
