Miller to deliver MSU Distinguished Professor Lecture March 18

March 04, 2008
Bozeman - John P. Miller, one of two recently named Letters and Science Distinguished Professors at Montana State University, will give his inaugural lecture at 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, in Room 275 of the Strand Union Building on the MSU campus.

A professor of neurophysiology, Miller's lecture, "Neuro-Archaeology: Were Irish megalithic art forms inspired by visual hallucinations?" will be followed by a reception hosted by the MSU College of Letters and Science. The public is welcome.

Miller joined MSU as director of the Center for Computational Biology in 1997. He is internationally recognized for his pioneering research in computational neuroscience and the neural code. He is also a trustee of the Bradshaw Foundation, which is dedicated to understanding human origins.

Greg Keeler, professor of English, was the other Distinguished Professor appointed in the 2007-2008 academic year. Both Miller and Keeler were chosen in recognition of their contributions to the college, to MSU, and to the scholarly community at large, said Paula Lutz, dean of the College of Letters and Science. Keeler will deliver his inaugural lecture in April.
