Nurses, practicing or not, are asked to fill out licensing survey
October 31, 2002 -- Carol Schmidt
The Montana Initiative for Nursing Transformation (MINT) and the Montana State University-Bozeman College of Nursing are asking all nurses, whether practicing or not, to complete a Montana Nursing Workforce Survey that will be included in state license renewal notices sent in November.
The 17-item survey will be included in all 15,500 RN and LPN license renewal notices, sent out in November, by the State Board of Nursing. The survey has been created to determine how many of the nurses licensed to practice nursing are actually practicing nursing. It will also help determine why licensed nurses are no longer practicing.
According to Barbara Derwinski-robinson (cq), of the MSU-Bozeman College of Nursing, results of the survey will be useful in identifying the extent to which licensed nurses are actually practicing nursing and to determine if non-practicing nurses could be recruited back into the profession.
"This research will be significant in the development of a specific response to Montana's nursing needs, as it will provide a base of knowledge revealing where the nursing shortage exists and possible steps to alleviate the nursing shortage," Derwinski-robinson said.
The survey may be completed, taped so the return address is visible and mailed. It will require a 34-cent stamp.
