2008 Harold Watling Scholarship recipients chosen

Students from Butte and Hysham have received the 2008 Harold Watling Scholarships, which recognizes outstanding achievement by an undergraduate senior in the premedical curriculum at Montana State University.
Kira Bersanti of Butte was one of the recipients. Bersanti, a graduate of Butte High School, will graduate this spring with a degree in Biomedical Sciences. She has been accepted to the University of Colorado School of Medicine in Denver, Colo.
Stephanie Kay Thomas of Hysham also received a 2008 Harold Watling Scholarship. Thomas, a graduate of Hysham High School, graduated from MSU in December 2007 with a degree in biomedical sciences. She has been accepted to the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle.
Each student received a $2,000 award April 6 at the initiation and award ceremony of Alpha Epsilon Delta, the health professions scholastic honorary society at MSU-Bozeman. Harold Watling was a professor of zoology at MSU from 1947-1980 and a premedical adviser. The scholarship was started by one of Watling's former students, Dr. David Burgan of Polson.
