April 30, 2008
Greg Mortenson, the humanitarian who has drawn international attention for his inspirational work to establish more than 60 schools in remote areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan, will deliver the charge to the graduates during Montana State University's 112th commencement, set for 10 a.m. Saturday, May 10.

MSU expects approximately 2,500 candidates for graduation for the academic year 2007-2008, according to Chuck Nelson, MSU registrar.

Graduates from MSU's eight academic colleges meet at the main ceremony in the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse. This spring there are 1,988 candidates for bachelor's degrees, 440 candidates for master's degrees and 56 candidates for doctoral degrees.

The Bozeman-based Mortenson, who will receive an honorary degree at the ceremonies, is also co-author of "Three Cups of Tea," which describes his life and struggles to launch the Central Asia Institute. The book has remained on the New York Times bestselling books list for more than 60 weeks. MSU also will award honorary doctorate degrees to graphic design innovator and MSU graduate Jack Anderson of Seattle, Crow ethnobiologist Alma Hogan Snell of Yellowtail and Timothy Swager, an MSU graduate who has become an innovator in polymer and organic chemistry.

Three of MSU's eight colleges will hold individual ceremonies before the main event. The times and locations are as follows:
