MSU names two new vice presidents

Bozeman - Montana State University President Geoff Gamble has elevated two senior administrators to the level of vice president in recognition of their leadership, responsibility and contribution to the university.

Jim Rimpau will be vice president of planning and chief information officer and Cathy Conover will be vice president of communications and public affairs. The new titles are effectively immediately. Both will continue their current responsibilities.

"Over the last few years, Jim and Cathy have served as key leaders in the senior administration. Both are actively involved in discussions at the university policy level," Gamble said. "I typically consult with the vice presidents, Jim and Cathy when addressing priority issues facing the administration."

Rimpau has been with MSU since 2002. He is both the university's chief information officer, in charge of MSU's computer and data infrastructure, and executive director of the Office of Planning and Analysis, where he oversees the collection and analysis of data vital to MSU's strategic planning and budgeting.

"Because of my priority on sound planning and using data to inform and support decisions, Jim is intricately involved in preparing an analysis of almost all issues that come before the senior leadership," Gamble said.

Rimpau came to MSU from Washington State University where he was associate vice president for enrollment services. He has a doctorate in psychology from the University of Nevada, Reno.

Conover has been with MSU since 1981. She manages all media and state governmental relations for MSU, directs the Office of Communications and Public affairs, and is the MSU spokesperson and lobbyist. She previously taught courses in the College of Engineering and the
College of Business, and served as the Director of Employee Relations and Services. She has represented MSU during the last five sessions of the Montana Legislature. She has a bachelor's degree from Cornell University and a master's degree in higher education administration from MSU.

"Cathy's office creates and maintains the public face of the university, managing how we are seen by our many constituencies. Her duties have expanded significantly over the last few years as we have implemented an integrated marketing plan for the university and adapted new technologies to communicate during a campus-wide emergency," Gamble said.
