MSU students receive awards, scholarships

Students from the Montana State University College of Education, Health and Human Development have received awards or scholarships for the 2008-2009 school year. The students' names, hometowns and activities are listed below.

Anaconda
Courtney Austin received the Earl and Fay Doney Scholarship. Austin, a junior majoring in elementary education, is the daughter of Mark and Laura Austin of Anaconda. Austin has earned academic all-conference awards from the Big Sky Athletic Conference in track and field and is on the Dean's List.

Augusta
Nicholas Troy received the Ralph Kenck Scholarship. Troy, a senior majoring in agricultural education with a minor in technology education, is the son of Susan and Steve Ford and Pat and Carol Troy of Augusta. He is a member of Army ROTC.

Belgrade
Reece Dringle received the Technology Education Club Scholarship. Dringle, a junior from Belgrade majoring in technology education, is the son of Scott and Teresa Dringle.

Denny Gregory received the Leo N. Knuti Technology Education Scholarship and the IA Technology Education Scholarship. Gregory, a junior from Belgrade majoring in technology education, is the son of Tom and Debbie Gregory.

John Marks received the Leo N. Knuti Scholarship and the Ralph Kenck Scholarship. Marks, a junior majoring in technology education, is the son of Jim and Coral Hall of Belgrade. He is a member of the technology education club and an assistant resident hall director.

Billings
Michelle Dandrea received the Hazel Eddy Scholarship and the Fern Erb Connors Scholarship. Dandrea, a senior from Billings majoring in food and nutrition, is the daughter of Wayne and Pam Dandrea and is a member of the Montana Student Dietetic Association at MSU.

Kelsey Edinger received the Flora Martin Student Success Scholarship, the Helyn McGown Scholarship and the Parent/Family Association Scholarship. Edinger, a junior majoring in exercise science, is the daughter of Larry and Kim Edinger. She is a cheerleader, is active in Campus Crusade for Christ and is on the Dean's List.

Cara Fusselman received the Dr. William Johnstone Excellence in Education Scholarship. Fusselman, a senior majoring in elementary education with a science option, is the daughter of Jeff and Vickie Ake of Billings.

L. Beth Patterson received the Lynn Johnstone Early Childhood Education Scholarship. Patterson, a senior majoring in elementary education with options in early childhood education and science education, is the daughter of Lori and Jim Thorn and LeRoy Patterson of Billings. She has been on the Dean's List.

Torey Scheafer was awarded the Barbara Miller Award given to an outstanding student in health enhancement. Scheafer, a graduate student in health enhancement, is the daughter of Randy and Tony Scheafer of Billings. She is a member of Gamma Beta Phi Society, Health Enhancement Club and was a Big Sky Conference Academic All Conference student athlete as an undergraduate.

Bozeman
Amber Arrowsmith received the Angus and Anne McMillan Family Scholarship and the Mollie Allen Stand Memorial Scholarship. Arrowsmith, a sophomore from Bozeman majoring in family and consumer science, is the daughter of Wayne and Cherie Rubash.

Angela Bergantine received the Norma and Royal Johnson Scholarship. Bergantine, a junior from Bozeman majoring in elementary education, is the daughter of Ralph and Judith Bergantine.

Michelle San Souci received the Earl and Fay Doney Scholarship. San Souci, a senior majoring in elementary education, is the daughter of Michael and Virginia San Souci of Bozeman.

Gretel Stolzman received the Kappa Delta Phi Scholarship. Stolzman, a senior from Bozeman majoring in elementary education, is the daughter of Sharon Lee and Jim Stolzman.

Karli Stephens received the Parent/Family Association Scholarship. Stephens, a senior majoring in elementary education, is the daughter of Mark and Susan Stephens of Bozeman. She has been on the Dean's List and is active in MSU volleyball intramurals.

Rachael Gabel received the Kappa Delta Phi Scholarship and the Ruth Osborn Memorial Scholarship. Gabel, a junior from Bozeman majoring in family and consumer science education/extension, is the wife of Steve Gabel. She has been on the Dean's List and is a member of Phi Upsilon Omicron Honor Society.

Kate Malone received the Henrietta Moebus Bolitho Memorial Scholarship. Malone, who is working on a master's degree in nutrition and exercise science, is president of Friends of Local Foods/Towne's Harvest Garden.

Nick Pugliano received the Donna Helterline Petouhoff Scholarship. Pugliano, a senior from Bozeman majoring in nutrition and exercise science, is the son of Rae Siring.

Darcey Sant received the Paul and Marie Davidson Scholarship and the Marie Moebus Undergraduate Scholarship. Sant, a senior majoring in family and consumer sciences, is the daughter of Harold Sant and Sharon Hinton. She is president of Phi Upsilon Omicron Honorary Society and on the Dean's List.

Carrie Ann Smith received the Sommerfeld Family Teacher of Promise Award given to an outstanding senior student majoring in elementary education.

Bridger
Alexandria Stevenson from Bridger has received the College of Education, Health and Human Development Scholarship. Stevenson will be a freshman and plans to major in dietetics and predentistry. She is the daughter of Kelly and Nicole Stevenson of Bridger.

Browning
Brad Hall received the Ardys SixKiller Clarke scholarship. Hall, a senior from Browning majoring in history education and minoring in Native American studies/museum sciences, is the son of Ted and Janel Hall. He is the recipient of the Rockefeller Brother's Fellowship for Aspiring Teachers of Color and received an award for the best undergraduate paper in MSU's department of history and philosophy. Hall has served as president and vice president of MSU's American Indian Council.

Wasewi Pukanaki Shawl received the Margaret Noble Walker Scholarship. Shawl, a junior majoring in food and nutrition, is the daughter of Thomas and Waverly Shawl of Browning. She is also a member of the American Indian Council at MSU.

Butte
Kally Lowney received the Marie Moebus Undergraduate Scholarship. Lowney, a junior from Butte majoring in family and consumer science education/extension, is the daughter of Dennis and Linda Lowney.

Kerry Lowney received the Lula May Clay Scholarship. Lowney, a senior from Butte majoring in family and consumer science, is the daughter of Linda and Dennis Lowney. She is a peer advisor, a 2008 Award for Excellence nominee for the College of Education, Health and Human Development, and is on the Dean's List.

Jessi Peretti received the Fern Erb Conners Scholarship and the Hazel Eddy Scholarship. Peretti, a senior majoring in food and nutrition, is the daughter of Ed and Jodi Peretti of Butte. She is in Mortar Board, Montana Student Dietetics Association, Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society and Alpha Omicron Pi sorority.

Cascade
Rebecca Filipowicz received the Bertha Cochrane Clow Scholarship. Filipowicz, a graduate student working on a master's in nutrition science, is the daughter of Alex and Margaret Filipowicz of Cascade. She is a nutrition research lab assistant, an intern for Monforton School Wellness program, the Blossom Project coordinator and a member of the Montana Dietetics Association.

Columbus
Jennifer Gauthier from Columbus received the Helyn McGown Scholarship and a university scholarship. Gauthier will be a freshman in the fall and is planning to major in exercise science. She is the daughter of Dennis and Merridy Gauthier of Columbus.

Dixon
Justine Morigeau received the Lula Mae Clay Scholarship. Morigeau will be a freshman in the fall and is planning to major in elementary education. She is the daughter of John and Charlotte Morigeau of Dixon.

East Helena
Timothea Lapham received the Lora S. Hedegaard Scholarship and the Marie Moebus Undergraduate Scholarship. Lapham, a senior from East Helena majoring in family and consumer science, is the daughter of Jeff and Karan Lapham. She is a member of Alpha Gamma Delta, homecoming royalty, and was a 2008 Award for Excellence recipient for the College of Education, Health and Human Development.

Forsyth
Bethany Ringer received the Christy Foundation Retention Scholarship. Ringer, a graduate student in family and consumer sciences education, is the daughter of Rochelle Pulver and David and Rene Pulver of Forsyth. She is active in 4-H and will be student teaching at Bozeman High School in the fall of 2008.

Geyser
Meghan McDonald recently received the Flora Martin Student Success Scholarship. McDonald, a senior majoring in elementary education, is the daughter of Lennie McDonald and Amy McDonald of Geyser. She is involved in 4-H, FFA Ag Days, intramurals, and is a Child Advancement Project mentor.

Glendive
Matthew Iba received the Dr. William A. Johnstone Excellence in Education Scholarship. Iba, a junior from Glendive majoring in music education, is the son of Mike and Peggy Iba. He is a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honorary Society, vice president of Collegiate Music Educators National Convention, assistant conductor of MSU Symphony Orchestra and a drum major for the Spirit of the West marching band.

Great Falls
Heidi Biehl received the John "Brick" Breeden Scholarship, the Parent Family Association Scholarship and the Flora Martin Student Success Scholarship. Biehl, a junior from Great Falls majoring in exercise science, is the daughter of Randy and Colleen Biehl and has also been on the Dean's List. She competes on the MSU track and field team and is a Big Sky Academic All-Conference student-athlete.

Catherine Allen received the Edna Berg Scholarship and the Joan Bowman Memorial Scholarship. Allen is working on her library media specialist endorsement.

Shane McFarland received the Helyn McGown Scholarship. McFarland, a senior majoring in pre-physical therapy, is the son of David and Donna McFarland of Great Falls. He is the vice president of the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Club and is on the Dean's List.

Danielle Milos received the Ruth Osborn Memorial Scholarship. Milos, a junior majoring in family sciences, is the daughter of Jim and Laura Milos, Jr. of Great Falls. She is a resident assistant for North Hedges Hall and was RA of the month for February 2008.

Jessica Treis received the Student Success Scholarship. Treis, a senior majoring in elementary education, is the daughter of Bruce and Roberta Treis of Great Falls. She is a member of the MSU Honor College, Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, National Society of Collegiate Scholars and a Child Advancement Project mentor. Treis has been on the President's List.

Hamilton
Timaree Meuchel received the Paul and Marie Davidson Scholarship. Meuchel, a junior majoring in family and consumer sciences, is the daughter of Jeremy and Connie Driscoll of Hamilton.

Helena
Lacy Little received the Lula May Clay Scholarship. Little, a senior majoring in food and nutrition, is the daughter of Curt and Cindy Little of Helena. She is a member of the Montana Student Dietetics Association and a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

Alanna Brown received the Molly Allen Strand Scholarship. Brown, a senior majoring in family and consumer sciences, is the daughter of Paul and Jackie Brown of Helena.

Hobson
Katie Wichman received the Vivian Baker Scholarship. Wichman, a senior majoring in food and nutrition, is the daughter of Ken and Faith Rice of Hobson. She is a volunteer coach for Special Olympics and works for MSU youth sports camp.

Hysham
Cathy Banister received the Fern Erb Connors Scholarship. Banister, from Hysham, will be a freshman and is planning to major in food and nutrition and health enhancement K-12. Banister is the daughter of Raymond and Abbey Banister.

Kalispell
Amy Plummer received the Dr. William A. Johnstone Excellence in Education Scholarship. Plummer, a senior from Kalispell majoring in agricultural education and elementary education, is the daughter of Wes and Sue Plummer. She is a member of the MSU track and field team, Collegiate FFA, Campus Crusade, and Athletes in Action. Honors and awards include 2008 MSU Award for Excellence, Big Sky Conference All-Academic Award, Bozeman Women's Center 2008 Student Achievement Award, and the National FFA Leadership Award.

Lewistown
Laura Anderson received the Helyn McGown Scholarship. Anderson, a junior majoring in pre-physical therapy, is the daughter of Dean and Betty Anderson of Lewistown. Anderson is involved the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Alumni Association Board of Directors Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, Mortar Board Honor Society and Septemviri. She also volunteers at Eagle Mount, Habitat for Humanity, Bowl for Kids' Sake and Relay for Life.

Livingston
Rebecca Rabenberg received the Marie Moebus Undergraduate Scholarship. Rabenberg, a senior majoring in food and nutrition, is the daughter of Darwin and Susie Rabenberg of Livingston. She has been on the Dean's List and President's List and is the secretary of the Montana Student Dietetic Association.

Libby
Erin Bothman received the Earl and Lois Ringo Scholarship. Bothman, a senior from Libby majoring in elementary education, is the daughter of Rocky and Georgia Bothman. She has also been on the Dean's List.

David Pickering received the Joan Bowman Memorial Scholarship and the Edna Berg Scholarship for 2008-2009. Pickering, who teaches English at Libby High School, is working on his library media specialist endorsement. He is the son of Pam and Jim Pickering of Cedar Lake, Ind.

Missoula
Sarah Syndergaard received the Roehm Memorial Scholarship. Syndergaard, a graduate student in exercise science and nutrition, is the daughter of Lanny and Angela Logan of Missoula and the wife of Shane Syndergaard. She is also the recipient of a Marie Moebus Fellowship and was named outstanding graduate student in Health and Human Development 2008.

Park City
Stacy Hogemark received the Joan McCracken Scholarship and the Helyn McGown Scholarship. Hogemark, a senior from Park City majoring in kinesiology, is the daughter of Bob and Wyetta Hogemark. She is an assistant resident hall director and a member of the National Residence Hall Honorary Society.

Red Lodge
Kylie Chupp received the Kappa Delta Phi Scholarship. Chupp, a senior from Red Lodge majoring in elementary education, is the daughter of Bill and Karen Chupp. She has been on the Dean's List and is active in intramurals.

Terry
Jill Reukauf from Terry received the Helyn McGown Scholarship and the Student Success Scholarship. Reukauf, who will be a freshman, is the daughter of Rob and Judy Reukauf of Terry and plans to major in pre-physical therapy.

Townsend
Samantha Rauser received the Flora Martin Student Success Scholarship, the Parent/Family Association Scholarship and the Max and Dorothy Worthington Scholarship. Rauser, a senior majoring in health enhancement K-12, is the daughter of John and Missy Rauser of Townsend. She is a member of Collegiate 4-H and Health Enhancement Majors Club.

Kristi Carroll received the Marie Moebus Undergraduate Scholarship. Carroll, a senior from Townsend majoring in family and consumer sciences, has been on the Dean's List and is a tutor for America Reads*America Counts.

Clint Mingay received the Russell Kessner Scholarship and the Caroline Daniels Patrick Scholarship. Mingay, a senior majoring in technology education, is the son of Martin and Doris Mingay of Townsend. He is a member of the Technology Education Club and is on the Dean's List.

West Yellowstone
Emily Maples received the Flora Martin Student Success Scholarship. Maples, a senior majoring in elementary education, is the daughter of Mike and Debbie Maples of Tennessee and granddaughter of Max and Margie Maples of West Yellowstone. She is a volunteer youth sports coach and is on the Dean's List.

Wolf Point
Karli Madison received the Ardy SixKiller Clarke Scholarship. Madison, a senior majoring in mathematics education, is the daughter of Dave and Debi Madison of Wolf Point. She is also on the MSU rodeo team.

Worden
Brittni Wohlfeil received the Marie Moebus Scholarship and the Ramona Marotz-Baden Scholarship. Wohlfeil, a senior majoring in family science, is the daughter of Rodd and Jacque Wohlfeil of Worden. She is president of Intervarsity Christian Fellowship.

California
Truckee
Whitney Proser received the Louise M. Taylor Memorial Scholarship. Proser, a senior majoring in elementary education, is the daughter of Cindy and Larry Prosor, formerly of Truckee, Calif., and now of New Zealand. She is also the recipient of the Christy Foundation Retention Scholarship, a member of the MSU Honors College, president of Student Montana Educators' Association and a Child Advancement Project mentor.

Idaho
Boise
Amanda Larrinaga received the Lula May Clay Award and the Marjorie Paisley Scholarship. Larrinaga, a senior majoring in Health and Human Development and University Honors, is the daughter of Robert and Marguerite Larrinaga of Boise. She is a member of Mortar Board, Phi Kappa Phi, Septemviri, and editor-in-chief of the university newspaper, the Exponent. Larrinaga volunteers for organizations such as the VOICE Center, Students Against Sexual Assault and AmeriCorps Campus Corps.

Minnesota
Owatonna
Ann Velishek received the Donna Helterline Petouhoff Memorial Scholarship. Velishek, a senior majoring in family and consumer sciences, is the daughter of Sheryl Velishek and Bruce Bentley of Owatonna, Minn. She is the secretary of Phi Upsilon Omicron Honor Society and a member of MADD.

New York
Middleport
Sarah Giroux received the Dorothy Kennemer Physical Education Scholarship. Giroux, a senior majoring in health enhancement, is the daughter of Stephan and Carolyn Giroux of Middleport, N.Y. She is also on the Dean's List.

Williamsville
Gita Gelfer received the George and Jeanine Shroyer Scholarship. Gelfer, a graduate student working on a master's degree in nutrition science, is the daughter of Drs. Alexander and Frida Gelfer of Williamsville, N.Y.

Oregon
Bend
Kelan Stanfill received the Helyn McGown Scholarship and Student Success Scholarship. Stanfill, a senior majoring in exercise science and Spanish, is the daughter of Steven and Cary Stanfill of Bend. She is an honor student, a tutor for TRIO and has studied abroad in Chile.

Nashville
Emily Maples received the Flora Martin Student Success Scholarship. Maples, a senior majoring in elementary education, is the daughter of Mike and Debbie Maples of Tennessee and granddaughter of Max and Margie Maples of West Yellowstone. She is a volunteer coach and on the Dean's List.

Meredyth Malone received the Wilson-Humphreys Family Fund Scholarship. Malone, a senior majoring in elementary education, is the daughter of Meg Malone. She is active in Pi Beta Phi sorority, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society and is on the Dean's List.

Middlebury
Colin Ahearn received the Ralph Kenck Scholarship and the Carolyn Daniels Patrick Scholarship. Ahearn, a senior majoring in technology education, is the son of Laurie Borden and Daniel Ahearn. He has been on the Dean's List and is a Child Advancement Program mentor.

Washington
Gig Harbor
Jessica Fink from Gig Harbor, Wash., received the Parent/Family Association Scholarship. Fink, the daughter of Pamela Ruzic and the late Michael Ruzic, and William Fink, will be a freshman in the fall and is planning to major in elementary education with an early childhood option.

Friday Harbor
Brandie Miller received the Flora Martin Student Success Scholarship, the Parent/Family Association Scholarship and the Marga Hosaeus Memorial Scholarship. Miller, a junior majoring in community health education, is the daughter of Sandi Jackson and Jim Miller of Friday Harbor, Wash.

Kirkland
Doug Rakel received the Student Success Scholarship. Rakel, a senior majoring in elementary education, is the son of Jay and Suanne Rakel of Kirkland.

Wyoming
Weston
Darcy Lipp-Acord received the Joan Bowman Memorial Scholarship and the Edna Berg Scholarship. Acord is working on a library media specialist endorsement and is the wife of Shawn Acord of Weston, Wyo., and the daughter of Carol Lipp and the late Dan Lipp of Timber Lake, S.D.

Casper
Aaron Harkins received the Earl and Lois Ringo Scholarship. Harkins, a senior majoring in math education, is the son of Mark and Barb Harkins of Casper, Wyo. He is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, a member of Pi Mu Epsilon National Honorary Mathematics Society, and recently named outstanding scholar by the department of mathematical sciences.
