2008 EcoStar applications and nominations being accepted

Montana small businesses, organizations and individuals can apply now or nominate others to be recognized for outstanding environmental and resource conservation efforts through a Montana State University Extension Pollution Prevention award program.
The awards program, called EcoStar, is in its ninth year. EcoStar recognizes Montana businesses and organizations that are moving towards sustainability by surpassing state and federal requirements to reduce solid and hazardous waste generation, conserving resources and serving as role models for the state with their pollution prevention efforts.
People and businesses who want to be considered for the 2008 EcoStar award program should complete an application before Oct. 1. Details about the program and an application form are available on the MSU Web at: http://www.mtp2.org/ecostar.html.
EcoStar designations are awarded based on the applicant's commitment to pollution prevention, environmental benefits they have achieved, amount of waste they have prevented and the innovation shown in their waste-reduction activities. Applicants who are awarded EcoStar status receive recognition in the Governor's award ceremony, media exposure, display ads, window decals and a plaque of achievement.
"The EcoStar award is an incentive," said Mike Vogel, director of the Montana Pollution Prevention Program at MSU. "It's a recognition that can help attract new customers or members, enhance customer loyalty, boost employee morale and gain a competitive advantage, all while reducing costs. The program provides well-deserved recognition to Montanans who are working to preserve and protect our environmental resources."
Gov. Brian Schweitzer will host an awards ceremony at the Capitol in Helena for EcoStar pollution prevention award winners on Nov. 17.
