MSU presentation to look at local, regional volcanic activity
November 27, 2002 -- By Evelyn Boswell
Volcanic hazards in the region and their potential impact on Gallatin County will be explored Dec. 6 at Montana State University-Bozeman, says Todd Feeley, assistant professor of earth sciences.
The public is invited to attend a poster presentation from 10 a.m. to noon in the southwest lounge of the Strand Union Building (SUB). The posters will be presented by Feeley's Geology 400 students and will provide an overview of volcanic activity in the northwest United States. That includes the Yellowstone Plateau Volcanic Field, the Snake River Plain in Idaho, and the volcanic Cascades of the West Coast.
Topics will include the geologic setting and recent volcanic activity in those areas. Students will also look at the potential hazards and risks from future major eruptions, particularly in Gallatin County.
