MSU College of Nursing offers new graduate options
December 04, 2002 -- Carol Schmidt
Applications are now available for new nursing graduate degree specialties offered by the Montana State University - Bozeman College of Nursing.
Beginning next fall, the MSU College of Nursing will offer graduate courses in both Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) as well as new Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) option. The courses will be offered on all MSU-College of Nursing campuses in Billings, Great Falls, Missoula and Bozeman.
The new CNS option offers focus areas in either care of adults with acute and/or chronic health problems or community/public health nursing.
The Community/Public Health focus area combines nursing with public health practice to promote and preserve the health of populations. The specialty also works with health care management of individuals, families, and groups in a community that contributes to the health of the total population.
The second CNS focus area provides care for adults who have known or predicted physiological changes. CNS nurses who care for adults with acute or chronic health problems are engaged in education, case management. They are also involved in expert clinical practice, consultation, research and administration practicing in settings where primary, acute or long-term care is delivered.
MSU-Bozeman College of Nursing currently offers the only advanced nursing degrees in Montana. Graduates of the MSU graduate program are eligible for licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of Montana after successfully passing the FNP or CNS National Certification Examination.
The deadline for applications for admission for Fall 2003 is February 15, 2003.
