MSU students receive awards, scholarships

Students from the Montana State University College of Education, Health and Human Development have received awards or scholarships for the 2008-2009 school year. The students' names, hometowns and activities are listed below.
In-state:
Belgrade
Kirk Halgren received the Student Success Scholarship. Halgren, a sophomore majoring in pre-physical therapy, is the son of Mark and Tracey Halgren of Belgrade. He volunteers for the athletic department at MSU.
Big Timber
Kallie Chittenden received the Fern Erb Conners Scholarship. Chittenden, a freshman majoring in food and nutrition, is the daughter of Kent and Jenny Chittenden of McLeod.
Billings
Laura Winkler received the Helyn McGown Scholarship and the Student Success Scholarship. Winkler, a junior pursuing a degree in pre-physical therapy, is the daughter of Mike and Debbie Winkler of Joliet. She is a member of the Exercise Science Club and a CAP mentor, and she is on the dean's list at MSU.
Jennifer Lehigh received the Ruth Osborne Memorial Scholarship. Lehigh, a senior majoring in food and nutrition/dietetics, is the daughter of John and Sandy Lehigh of Billings. She is a member of the Montana Student Dietetic Association and volunteers at the Bozeman Senior Center and the Gallatin Valley Food Bank.
Alyssa Kraus received the Student Success Scholarship. Kraus, a senior majoring in health enhancement, is the daughter of Karen Kraus of Billings. She is a member of the Health Enhancement Majors Club, a volunteer with the Little Bobcat Track program, and she participates in intramural soccer.
Bozeman
Joy Englander received the Christy Scholarship. Englander, a sophomore from Bozeman majoring in family and consumer science and sociology, is the daughter of John and Mona Vaydik and Chris Vaydik of Lansing, Mich. Englander serves on the board of directors of Associated Students of MSU Day Care.
Jeremy Henrichon received the Gus and Nikki Gnehm Scholarship. Henrichon, a junior in University Studies and a former skier on the MSU ski team, is now an assistant alpine coach with MSU. He has also coached for the Big Sky Ski Team, the Sugar Bowl Academy and the U.S. Ski team.
Whitney McKenzie received the Earl and Lois Ringo Scholarship and the Student Success Scholarship. McKenzie, a senior majoring in health enhancement and elementary education, is the daughter of William David and Elizabeth McKenzie of Bozeman. She is a member of SMEA, a CAP mentor and a volunteer for America Reads, America Counts.
Cory Talbott received the Marie Moebus Undergraduate Scholarship. Talbott, a senior majoring in food and nutrition/dietetics, lives in Bozeman with her husband, Karl, and two children. She is a member of the Montana Student Dietetic Association and is on the dean's list.
Emily Willmuth received the Gary Smith Memorial Scholarship. Willmuth, a sophomore majoring in elementary education, is the daughter of Skip and Linda Willmuth of Bozeman. She is a member of the MSU track and field team and is a volunteer in the CAP mentoring program.
Browning
Tamara Birdsbill received the Ruth Osborne Memorial Scholarship. Birdsbill, a junior majoring in food and nutrition, is the daughter of Holi Weatherwax and the late Carmen Birdsbill. She has three sons and is a parent volunteer at Irving School in Bozeman and Head Start.
Fromberg
Kalli Vennes received the Marie Moebus Undergraduate Scholarship. Vennes, a senior majoring in family and consumer science and psychology, is the daughter of Rick and Julie Avants and Martin Vennes of Fromberg. She is a member of Phi Upsilon Omicron Honor Society, Recreational Sports Advisory Board, Letters and Science Dean's Student Council, Psi Chi and the Undergraduate Scholars Program.
Helena
Krista Cronholm received the Fern Erb Conners Scholarship. Cronholm, a senior majoring in food and nutrition/dietetics, is the daughter of Robert and Linda Cronholm of Helena. She is a member of the Montana Student Dietetic Association, a MSU VOICE advocate, and she is on the dean's list.
Kalispell
Tiffany Krushensky received the Lula Mae Clay Scholarship. Krushensky, a senior majoring in family and consumer science and early childhood education, is the daughter of Dave and Pam Hutton of Kalispell. She is a member of Kappa Kappa Psi honorary band fraternity.
Kacie West received the Helyn McGown Scholarship. West, a sophomore in exercise science and vocal music, is the daughter of Chris and Tammy West of Kalispell. She is a resident hall advisor, a member of the Chorale and the Montanans singing groups and the recipient of an MUS Honors Scholarship.
Livingston
Hanna Gertiser received the Marie Moebus Undergraduate Scholarship. Gertiser, a sophomore majoring in nutrition science, is the daughter of Steven and Christa Gertiser of Livingston. She is a Presidential Scholar and a recipient of the Undergraduate Research Internship for Enhancing Diversity in Science and Engineering, and she plays intramural soccer.
Sunburst
Darcey Johannsen received the Student Success Scholarship. Johannsen, a freshman majoring in exercise science, is the daughter of Cleve and Jonette Johannsen of Sunburst.
Whitefish
Kristen Laxson received the Fern Erb Conners Scholarship. Laxson, a senior majoring in family and consumer sciences, is the daughter of Steve and Paula Laxson of Whitefish. She is a volunteer at the VOICE center on campus, participates in intramural softball, and she is on the dean's list.
Mammoth
Sophia Cole received the Fern Erb Conners Scholarship. Cole, a junior majoring in nutrition, is the daughter of Steve and Maurine Cole of Mammoth in Yellowstone National Park.

Krista Brien received the Christy Scholarship. Brien, a sophomore majoring in exercise science, is the daughter of Jeanne Brien of Fort Collins, Colo.
Morgan Kinnes received the Helyn McGown Scholarship. Kinnes, a freshman majoring in exercise science, is the daughter of Gregg and Karen Kinnes of Fort Collins, Colo.

Allison Carlson received the Lula Mae Clay Scholarship. Carlson, a senior majoring in family and consumer science education, is the daughter of Lloyd and Denise Carlson of Oak Forest, Ill. She is a member of the Montana State Association of Family and Consumer Sciences and a 4-H leader.

Green Bay
Brooke Tomes received the Marie Moebus Undergraduate Scholarship. Tomes, a senior majoring in food and nutrition, is the daughter of Charles and Carol Tomes of Green Bay, Wis. She is a member of the Montana Student Dietetics Association.

Danielle Barth received the Ruth Osborne Memorial Scholarship. Barth, a junior majoring in family science and psychology, is the daughter of Todd and Kristi Barth of Portland, Ore. She is a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority and Campus Crusades.
