Role of statistics in climate studies to be discussed March 23

BOZEMAN -- A free public lecture on the role of statistical science in understanding and quantifying uncertainty in climate research will be given Monday, March 23, at Montana State University.

Douglas Nychka, director of the Institute for Mathematics Applied to Geosciences and a senior scientist with the Geophysical Statistics Project at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, will speak at 4 p.m. in the Procrastinator Theater in the Strand Union Building. His lecture, titled "Climate Past, Present, and Future" is part of MSU's Mathematical Sciences Colloquium Series.

The lecture is sponsored by the Department of Mathematical Sciences, the dean of the College of Letters and Science, the Office of the Vice President for Research, Creativity and Technology Transfer, and the ASMSU Procrastinator Theater.
